Henryk Fallat, The Dove Knight"I swear, to god and to every soul within his golden light! I swear upon this empire, and the church for which shall be it's foundation! The cruel pagan shall be driven to the seas, and Kevica will be free once more! Glory to god on high!" -Goldfire Oath"That one man has made it his mission to really piss me off, and he is succeeding very well." -Borgof Curia on Henryk FallatHenryk Fallat was a nobleman of Estan, an Estani pagan in his early years and lord of his lands. Although Estan was slowly becoming Illuminated, he originally did not pay much mind until Borgof Curia, the monstrous brother of the Curia emperor, came to Estan and began to massacre the Illuminated. Borgof's cruelty was legendary, and his spite of the non-Curdans was equally so. A monstrous man with monstrous sons, Borgof butchered and massacred the Illuminated after a failed revolt, including those Henryk's villages. When Henryk went to go confront the murderous lord, Borgof humiliated him for being an Estani speaking up to a Curdan as himself. Though angry at the butchery and murder caused by Borgof and his sons, he remained resolute in the old faith of his home country.
Borgof however was not done with Henryk, who forced him and his levies on campaign such as a failed adventure in the Riverlands, a devastating and humiliating invasion into Roasam, and a successful defense in the northern realms against the 2nd Great Horde invasion. Henryk was called to the capital to be a representative of the Estani, but during his stay the emperor died and was succeeded by Rihles Curia. Although not one for political machinations, Henryk would be one of the four to secret convert beneath the Black and White Tree of Anar by an Estani prophet who was spared by the emperor, fully joining a new order of Illumination. When Borgof returned to the capital to challenge his nephew to a duel for the right to rule the empire, it was Henryk who held out his sword first to Borgof along with other knights to stop him. Thankfully, the violence in the court of the Curias did not explode, but the seeds of civil war was planted.
Civil war eventually broke out and it originally did not go well for the Illuminated. The Imperial War of Religion started with two defeats, with Henryk Fallat leading an unorganized militia against Borgof's professional and skilled warriors. Henryk was forced to retreat and drill a new army to combat the tide of the Curdan pagans, and created a masterful plan. He would go to save an Estani city being besieged by the pagan, winning a major Illuminated victory while he sent one of his favored squires south to convert the Resanks and bring their armies into the fold. It was in that city he forged the Goldfire Oath, a promise to his followers to kick Borgof and his pagans from Kevica for good. Though the war was one of subterfuge and diplomacy, Henryk was one of the few who were considered clean of the evils of war. Henryk kept the small folk in mind, his honor was resolute, and time and time again he overcame challenge and won battles against the pagan army.
Yet also famously, as the war became more messy and turned into a crusade, Henryk came to be an arch rival of his co-commander, Ferrot Festoli, the King of Remosia. Ferrot and his forces were dubious and corrupt, a problem which caused Henryk no end of troubles. During their skirmishes in Rosari lands, the two fought often with one another and Henryk had even temporary had him arrested for treason. Eventually forced to let him go, Henryk continued his march against Borgof's pagans and his allies, all the while dealing with the consequences of his war effort. Henryk was known to be unflinching in helping those in need, although this had made his advance slow and predictable. Ferrot and his family would claim they were the true reasons behind Henryk's victories, but at the same time Henryk and his followers would claim the Festolies were behind their most gruesome defeats. Despite this disunity, the army of the Illuminated continue to crush the pagans and forced them into a corner.
The pagan forces were divided into two factions; the blues and the blacks. The blues, led by Borgof were loyal to his cause. The Blacks were pagan allies, but just barely, who despised Borgof's handling of the war and were run by an influential and honorable northern family, whose leader was a friend of Henryk when the two fought side by side during the Great Horde's invasion. Now on opposite sides in the conflict, Henryk played a patient game of trying to separate the two, but was time and time again stopped and sabotaged by the Festolies. Eventually, Henryk had cornered Borgof and his army, but instead of being reinforced by the Festolies, they had instead rushed off to find and destroy the Black army instead. Henryk's army was destroyed, and he would die in a personal duel between him and Borgof. Despite all their hatred towards one another, Borgof was said to have given Henryk a warrior's death.
Henryk's demise would have major consequences for the Festolies. Although Borgof would eventually be assassinated by his own son and the Blues would retreat to found Nor Curndia, the Blacks surrendered and became Illuminated. It was said during a court session in the capital, Ferrot Festoli argued for the dissolution and deaths of the Blacks who surrendered, but during his speech he was interrupted by one Henryk's vengeful squirewho killed him on the spot. Henryk may have been dead, but his legacy became immortalized. Many knights of both the Commonwealth, Empara Curndia, and even the Rosarug Empire would hold Henryk in extremely high regard. Even in states such as Garium, whose population was decimated by the Wendigo, the banner of the dove knight was said to wave proudly to inspire troops to battle. Henryk's legacy was mixed the more north one goes, being both despised but respected by the pagan Curdans of Nor Curndia who could not deny he was an excellent warrior and general.
