Helna Curia and Valux, The Pagan Saviors"We owed everything to them, both of them. Had I trusted her from the start, she would be here now, happy and alive. Their passing will not be in vain, for when the time comes, Nor Curndia will be flying it's banner against the Marches!" -Tsar Valkan Curia on Helna and Valux"Perhaps there is strength yet in men, one which I had long overlooked. If but one of their own and a simple Ratik hunter can push back the Silent King by their own lonesome, I can only ponder what an army of them can do." -Lich of Aran'Burdur on Helna and ValuxHelna Curia was the youngest daughter of Valkan Curia, the Tsar of Nor Curndia. Like many Curias, she had grown up in the brutal and demanding household of her family but had little desire for it. After a falling out with her father, Helna rebelled passively by traveling often across the country. Yet, during her temporary stay in the grove of a Black and White Tree of Anar, she had a vision of a coming host from the far north, the Silent King had been stirred and now looked to her home country. Helna had raced back to her home to warn them of the impending danger, but was not believed by her close kin. She stole from her father the axe of Odo Curia and fled, heading north where she would face this threat herself and hoping her father would give chase. He did, although the political machinations of one of her father's rivals soon turned a passive hunt to bring her home to becoming an active skirmish between her and knights of the Tsardom.
Helna fled from a port and went to the Wolffolk realm of Crunesdur, seeking help. Rejected and demeaned, she was again finding herself hunted now by mercenaries, and fled further east till she reached the lands of Zagzial Clannate. It was in Zagzial that she would meet her long time companion Valux, a gray Ratik hunter who had rescued her from the mercenaries seeking her out. Helna and Valux traveled together and befriended one another, seeking a powerful shadow shaman who helped Helna understand her dreams and visions better. The two returned to Crunesdur where they got briefly embroiled in a political dispute, revealing an underlying corruption. The two discovered a stranglehold of puppeted leaders and criminals who were in the hands of the Silent King, covering the eyes of the Guardianship, to prevent the Wildar from interfering in a future war against Nor Curndia.
Helna and Valux went to find a ship back to the Tsardom, but their ship was hounded by Yul'Wendigo pirates where they crashed on the southern shore. The two were recorded to have many misadventures and went through various trials and tribulations. The two scoured for aid and help for those who would believe them, trying to forge an army which would stand against the Silent King. In her time, she had difused a potential civil war in her country, Valux would gain the trust from a group of thieves and assassins in the western part of the country who joined their cause, and the two had even been said to steal the sword of Henryk Fallat, a legendary hero in his own right and defeated foe of Helna's family. Helna and Valux took their forces north, where they met and aligned with a mad ice mage who had received visions as well and who made some terrifying discoveries.
Through magic and ritual, the two would discover that Helna's vision was an attempt by the Silent King to 'create' prophecy which would secure his victory. Using the unpredictable and chaotic magic of the Wendigo, the Silent King was toying with the Black and White Trees of Anar to rewrite his own fate. The two went to various Ice Towers to convince the archmages and their guilds to meet and create an alignment which would develop a countermeasure against such a power, but during the meeting it was attacked by a traitor force of Yul'Wendigo mercenaries. Barely surviving the encounter, their chief ally and mage was slain in the fighting, but the ritual had been complete. Yet, their next obstacle awaited when their noble and financial support was pulled by one of Helna's chief antagonists, a rival of her father who sought her demise in a petty political scheme. Abandoned and unable to do much, the two sought desperate means to prevent the Wendigo from starting their march against Nor Curndia.
The two sought out the King of Thieves, an Ice Wraith and dubious vassal of the Silent King who had been living in secret as a spymaster in the Tsardom. Doing the Ice Wraith's bidding, stealing powerful artifacts and strange baubles for his collection, the two were able to convince him to tell them the Silent King's next move. Revealing that the Silent King would use an abandoned Ice Elf mine to cross into the country, the two sought the help from an unlikely source. Going into a Gulag city, the two rallied the slaves of the Tsardom and some hermits, hedge knights, and mercenaries they had set forth up the mountain from their new prison base to find this mine. In the nick of time, the group found a bastion of undeath awaiting them, and the two and their forces defended the mine long enough to collapse its tunnels to prevent the Wendigo invasion. The two held their ground, allowing their friends and allies to retreat as they perished. They, and the artifacts they had carried, were never seen again.
The aftershock of their heroism had large ripples, as the Tsardom was shocked to action to realize the Wendigo Marches would come for them if they were not prepared. Helna and Valux were deemed as heroic martyrs for Nor Curndia, gaining a legend and reverence similar to the heroes who had slain Gabool Tosh. Although they had perished and their artifacts had gone missing, such as Odo Curia's axe, the two had been remembered fondly by their loved ones and especially by the Curian monarches of Nor Curndia who were said to regret not helping them as they did. That regret would lead to the Council of Snow, a mutual pact of protection and friendship between the Shadowed Guardianship and the Tsardom. Helna's army of rogues, slave soldiers, and mercenaries would continue to work far after her behalf, becoming Helna's Raiders, a rogue army which wanders northern Nor Curndia to aid against Wendigo interlopers and enjoy the financial and public support of the Curias.
