Ash'Nasayal Velnor, The Dark Elf"You are my king, and you are the king of all elves. Yet know this, all of your father's work is gone because of you. Our homes are gone, our people despise us, and the enemy is at our gates seeking to put us in chains or kill us. Everything you have destroyed, I must rebuild. You will rule an empire again, I am bound to that oath for all time, but when and if the time comes. I will not shed a tear for your passing, and your grave will be far meeker and simple than the shallow hole your father was put into." -'Ash' Velnor to his nephew, the elvish king"You are the only one of your kind I have ever come to respect. If I lived longer and kept such youth as you did, I would have loved to have fought you properly." -Odo Curia to 'Ash' VelnorAlso known as 'Ash' by both friends and foe, Ash'nasayal Velnor was the brother of the first and eternal elvish king Aslan'nasayal Velnor. 'Ash' was the younger brother, although he and his king were close friends and compatriots as they built the elvish empire. In his youth, 'Ash' was a warrior and adventurer who traveled all across Kevica to explore it's young world. It was said he conversed with dragons, made trade pacts with the ever unfriendly Kerks while they lived in the Riverlands, and even made contact with the ancient Wildar when their civilization still thrived. 'Ash' is a gifted creature of sword and sorcery, having mastered the arcane arts and having spent countless years trying to perfect his magic. It was even said he sought to expand his magical mastery by delving into the darker arts of Kerkian magic, but became disgusted and returned to his people, only to find two major problems.
The first was that his brother, through his arrogance and denouncement had driven away the dragons from Kevica, and in doing so also kidnapped and began to shepherd humans into being slaves. Not thinking much of this at first, 'Ash' argued with his brother on their duties as guardians over Kevica, and that their gods would no doubt retract their blessings should they discover their new ambitions. 'Ash' was rebuked, and he left the elvish court in dismay to meditate in the mountains. He led a faltering defense against the Roach Men, and sought a way to defeat their dark warriors, the Elf Slayers. 'Ash' was said to be 'the first patron', having shepherded the Rosari whom he considered his favorite human peoples. Yet, during his time spent north, Odo Curia had landed and began his invasion of Kevica.
'Ash' led the elven hosts against the oncoming human onslaught, but found his armies small and undersupplied. Using what he could, the elvish army and it's reinforced slave army of men met the Curdans on the field, reinforcing the elvish king's armies. The battle was brutal and devastating, but Odo Curia came out victorious having personally slain the elvish king and taking 'Ash' captive. The elvish general watched as his people's cities were destroyed one by one, his people massacred and enslaved. Although he and Odo were mortal enemies, with Odo considering him at first a trophy to lug around and demoralize his foe, they regained a strange friendship when the human army went south into what is now Remosia where they encountered the Havens. Odo and 'Ash' were both mortified to learn that as the human and elves fought, the elvish nobility built and fled to magical utopias which locked out the common elvish folk, taking with them their servants and favorite slaves to live out the invasion in the lap of luxury.
During his time in the Curdan war camp, Odo and 'Ash' became mutual friends and Odo allowed 'Ash' to go free and join the Havens. 'Ash' quickly integrated himself as being the commander and ruler of Avas-Nai Tomaya (Violet Wall Haven). Having been the haven where members of the royal family and army fled to, 'Ash's' return brought hope to the city. 'Ash' meditated on the failures of defending the empire, and despite his anger towards his nephew who cowardly held himself up in a nearby Haven, he remained a steadfast commander of the elvish empire. 'Ash' got to work reforming the elvish army, creating an army more similar to that of the Curdans whom he fought. He reduced the reliance on slave soldiers and promoted elvish servants and commoners to rank and file soldiers. 'Ash' became a general loved and respected by both his old veterans and the younger generations of elves, especially as his army began to make considerable gains. Once on nothing but the defensive and losing, the reformed army was active in local affairs and even saved the Havens countless times from the constant siege of the Curdans.
'Ash' became known for being eager to fix his people's mistakes and restore the elvish empire to it's former glory, even if it meant dealing with old enemies. 'Ash' was active in many human politics, manipulating policies and garnering feuds to distract the Curdans as he kept the Havens in line. 'Ash' was helped immensely in secret by the Roach King, who sent trainers and advisors (and even personally visiting the Violet Wall Haven itself at one time) to help 'Ash' restore the elvish army and organize new tactics. 'Ash' has been a hero warlord, preventing the Curdans from conquering the Havens, but at the same time being in the constant crosshairs of his lord and nephew. The new king of the elves, locked up in his court and in a ceaseless party of degenerate decadence, made many decisions which 'Ash' would often reverse. When the elves allied Rosarug to free Demovia and Remosia, it was 'Ash' who shut down future alliances knowing what the Rosari did to the Roach Men who had aided them when their time was most dire (and out of personal disgust as well).
The Velnors are known for their arrogance, but 'Ash' was different. He got his nickname 'The Dark Elf' for pushing back from his ancestral traditions to aid his people in a time of need, constantly reforming his armies and changing it's colors to further keep the Havens safe. The title also comes as an insult, being hurled at him by his king who demeans and mocks him despite all he has done. 'Ash' is famously known for his cold demeanor and criticalness. Although still an imperial minded creature, trying to hold onto the idea of an elvish empire, 'Ash' is one of the few elvish leaders who is open to making alliances and gaining support. Having friends and allies in Denovia, Remosia, Rosarug, Roasam, Kerkia, and even Vag-Rumbard, 'Ash' continues to work tirelessly for the good of the elvish peoples and has been a thorn in the side of those who have tried to commit atrocities against them.
