I've been debating for awhile about posting this comic up because it's kinda sad and dark, but it's also a comic that I'm really proud of.
This was the final for my cartooning class: Design a 4-5 page comic in full color.
That was it. There were no other restrictions or guidelines or anything else. After all of the guided lessons I'd had up to this point, such an open final project was actually a little daunting. I had a couple of ideas, but ultimately I settled on depicting the backstory of one of my major characters in Forever Flight: Nestle. I poured myself into this project for literal weeks, and I struggled a lot, but also learned a lot. I did completely digital inking and lettering for the sake of saving time, and I think that was the right call for the sake of consistency.
There's a lot going on in this story, but I hope that it eventually speaks for itself.
As a side note: I had a ton of fun designing outfits for this comic. I'm especially happy with Valerie and her little ear-hood thing she has going on.

I told you before in a private message and I repeat it here: rarely reach this level of "violence" in your works. The dark cruelty and, above all, the subtlety of the way you depict the actions taking place in this story is purely outstanding. The resulting short comic is a model I am still trying to decipher in order to apply it to my own work. I truly admire your talent when it comes to create characters and depict their interactions, on which the whole story will take part.
I do remember you sending me that message, and it's one of the things that inspired me to share this here. I get a little scared of showing more intense or emotional works for a variety of reasons, but I never expected this to inspire someone so much. I really appreciate your kind words, Alphonse, and I'm so very happy that my characters and their interactions come across strongly. It's something that I always strive for.
