I realize these are coming a little quickly, but, as you might have guessed, I finished the comics that I've shown several months ago. As some might have seen them already elsewhere, I wanted to post them up a little quicker.
This assignment was the first that allowed me to use color in my comics. It was outright called 'designing a Sunday strip', so it was supposed to be reminiscent of those big, page-long comics that I used to love reading on Sunday mornings. Working with colors for the first time in a comic like this was more demanding than I expected, especially since I had a set deadline. I was required to set time tables for parts of the project so that I could finish it on time, and that meant finding the most efficient way to draw, ink, and color the panels.
For this one, I wanted to try inking the panels physically. It turned out to be a major undertaking, and there were parts where I had to go back over with digital ink to make the lines better. I also did the panel borders digitally to help with consistency. Still, I really like how the characters turned out from a style perspective here. The raw inking captures something that my digital inks take away sometimes, I think.
Also, putting Violette opposite Paula in such a straightforward setting was a LOT of fun. I find that I like Vi as a character and that she's got more to her than meets the eye :)
I hope you all enjoy this look into the lives of my cast. I'm working on more to share!
