In this chapter Hannah and Kaern return home safely at the break of dawn - a full day after their departure. Nicole is ecstatic and finally-not-alone, Hannah’s father, however, much less so. In fact, he detains his daughter in the cabinet for an hour, lecturing her most of the time. Then Hannah is brought straight to her tutors and spends the first half of a day catching up on lessons for the first time in three days.
Once again Nicole is on his own, when he finds Kaern near the house in full riding harness. Huh? So that’s what Hanna was up to - booking a gryphin-express return ticket to the city! And Hannah’s father ain’t particularly happy with it. The old man storms out of the manor and starts to rail at Kaern rather harshly. Surprisingly the gryphon agrees with the most points brought up, as carrying Hannah to the city was indeed reckless, the only thing he argues with is that he didn’t “steal his daughter” as it was her idea. Nicole stands up for Kaern, affirming the fact, but the old man can’t be reasoned with, and thinks that gryphin is a bad influence on his daughter, threatening to banish Kaern himself.
The gryphon has nothing to say and the old man disappears into the manor.
