As my latest 'sweeps month' (September, 2015) winds down, my final offering for the last 'Throwback Thursday' of the month is a 'photo-op' taken at ZooMiami (formerly the Miami Metrozoo), Circa the 1990s. Back then, I'd shown my friend from New York City - Linda Meris Skwer around the zoo to take in much of its flora and fauna (especially its fauna)...
Near the zoo's entrance/exit was a man-made pond, stocked with all sort of birds, including cranes spoonbills, and coots. But its main residents are flocks of pink flamingos (who'd acquired their colored plumage stemming from their diet of pink shrimp). The flamingos were among the survivors of Hurricane Andrew (a few years earlier), when the zoo staff sheltered them in the public restrooms (which were stury enough to withstand the high winds).
Linda, of course, enjoyed her visit to ZooMiami, and I'm hoping that she'll return to south Florida - in the not-too-distant future - so I can take her there again (to see some of the newer animals and exhibits there).
