writing style

Question for those of you who have read some of my short stories. Asking this because I'm re-reading my Hunters series, and part 2 wasn't all that good. Seriously thinking about redoing that one (Same plot! More descriptions, maybe less talking!)
Bit of Background on me: I dropped out of high school ten years ago, failed pretty much every exam I took (Including English!). Never really took much interest in literature until the last four or five years, when I took up reading. As such, my 'writing style' I figure is pretty sloppy, and almost entirely based on books I've read.
So I was wondering what I could do to improve it. Am I too slow in my story telling? Do I rush/haze over details you really want to know more about? Am I making any serious literal Faux Pas in my writing? What does Faux Pas mean? Does it involve foxes? I hope the foxes are female, otherwise I'll have to TF some bitches!
But seriously, if you think I'm making the same errors over and over, or think I do too little/much of something, or even just grammar issues with my writing, please let me know!
Thanks!
