Recap of the Games I Beat in 2025
General
I'm bad at ranking games, so here's the games I beat this year, in order of beating them:
1) *Yoshi's Woolly World* - 1/11/25 (had started years ago, got most of the way through back then)
2) *Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3* - 1/16/25 (on actual cartridge, from a local store)
3) *Snipperclips: Cut It Out, Together!* - 1/23/25 (got decently far in the past, and ACCIDENTALLY played enough with a local friend to reach credits)
4) *The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap* - 1/30/25 (via Wii U)
5) *Granblue Fantasy: Relink* - 2/20/25 (started in August 2024)
6) *Melatonin* - 2/27/25 (on Switch - indie Rhythm Heaven!)
7) *Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania* - 3/4/25 (I'd nearly beaten the game a couple years prior)
8) *Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition* - 3/19/25
9) *Lil Gator Game* - 4/13/25 (so precious 🥺 )
10) *Pokemon X* - 5/7/25 (I stopped outside the Elite Four YEARS AGO)
11) *Ring Fit Adventure* - 5/21/25 (beat in time for the Switch 2; final boss level was **25 MINUTES of TOTAL EXERCISE TIME**, about one hour of total gameplay)
12) *The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD* - 5/28/25 (borrowed from a friend)
13) *Mario Kart World* - 6/11/25 (would have beat it closer to launch if I wasn't traveling that weekend)
14) *WarioWare: Move It!* - 7/9/25
15) *Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair* - 7/23/25 (dabbled with it years ago, fully started and beat it this year)
16) *Cornerpond* - 8/13/25 (idle overlaid Steam game that I 100% completed)
17) *Plants VS Zombies: Game of the Year* - 8/17/25 (re-bought on Steam ahead of Replanted; I'd beaten it elsewhere before)
18) *Donkey Kong Bananza* - 9/1/25 (went on to 100% complete it on 9/10/25)
19) *Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door* - 10/14/25 (Switch remake; I'd beaten the GCN version before)
20) *Pokemon Legends Z-A: Switch 2 Edition* - 11/15/25 (did not get the DLC)
21) *Sonic Racing CrossWorlds* - 12/24/25 (cleared every Grand Prix once)
I went into the year aiming to emphasize games I had left incomplete in previous years, trying to clean up some unfinished business. Yoshi, Granblue, Melatonin, Monkey Ball, Pokemon X, Ring Fit, and Yooka-Laylee all fit that bill to varying degrees. I had a couple more on the docket, and also had wonderful momentum going in that first half. Then the second half got too hectic and/or busy, especially with the Switch 2 and Bananza launching. Plus, just a growing sense of having less time than I do...
It didn't help that I also went harder on collecting retro games this year. At this point, I've got just about any old game I can think of that I really really want. Hopefully this year, I can really hunker down, focus on what I've got, and convince myself that I DO have time to devote to gaming still. Few to no new/retro purchases, 2026-me. Please. Save the money.
Anyway... you, reading this. Did you play/beat much this year? Seeing gaming variety from others is quite a good way to gain insight into them.
