The Game Awards 2025 Thoughts

General
I always enjoy tuning into this each year. Big video-game-focused celebrations really get me excited, and this is one of the few we have left now that E3 is dead...
- I'm proud of Expedition 33 for dominating and setting records. I never played it myself, but seeing a supercut and hearing high praise otherwise makes me happy it's our 2025 representative.
- Glad for my friend that Silksong got a win :3
- The reveals were mostly meh/alright. But revealing new Megaman with the orchestra was SO hype. (I'm not even a Megaman player, I'm just excited for the fans of it.)
- That mouthless "Out of Words" game looks SO cute, and I'm honestly kinda interested in playing it with a friend <3
- The GOTY orchestra killed it as always. Flute Guy is iconic, and I LOVE how they ended it by doing a live rendition of the Donkey Kong Bananza credits theme <333
- Miss Piggy was a fun guest, added some nice levity :)
- Boy, the reveal of that free game on Epic sure was a letdown :D
And now, for (most of) the actual awards. Got some thoughts about a few of 'em, and this might be a nice recap for some of you!
Best Family - Donkey Kong Bananza (Nice for this game to get good recognition. Fun as all heck, and one of the few new games I played this year.)
Best Action - Hades 2
Best Indie - Expedition 33
Best Actor/Actress - Expedition 33
Best Ongoing Game - No Man's Sky (the continuance of this redemption story is always nice)
Best Audio Design - Battlefield 6
Best Fighting Game - Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves
Most Anticipated Game - GTA VI (to no one's surprise)
Best Action/Adventure Game - Hollow Knight: Silksong (YAAAAAAAY, happy for my friend who was hyped for the game <3)
Best Art Direction - Expedition 33
Best Sim/Strategy Game - Final Fantasy Tactics - Ivalice Chronicles
Best Debut Indie Game - Expedition 33
Best Score & Music - Expedition 33
Best Sports/Racing Game - Mario Kart World (I was rooting for Sonic, even though I do like World and figured Sonic stood no chance. I do need to finish CrossWorlds...)
Best Community Support - Baldur's Gate 3
Best RPG - Expedition 33
Players' Voice - Wuthering Waves (I've never heard of this, but apparently it's a gacha? Must be one with a massive following, to have advanced past the heavy hitters in this category's multi-step voting!)
Best Narrative - Expedition 33
Best Multiplayer - Arc Raiders (Ugggggh, a little more normalizing of gen-AI usage in games... Yuck.)
Best Game Direction - Expedition 33
**Game of the Year** - Clair Obscura: Expedition 33 (Super well-deserved, and glad it didn't get blindsided with something else stealing GOTY <3)
What did you think of the show? Did you watch at all, or just catch up on news afterward? Anything exciting for you in it?
