Now, you may know that Sun Wukong was birthed from a stone, but did you know that stone was a herm? Do you know what a herm is? They are ancient road markers that (usually, but not always) depict Hermes. This particular herm was one of the older ones that were more or less notable stones or stone piles, and this one in China. Anyways, because this stone was a herm, and therefore an extension of Hermes, that makes him Hermes's son.

Before his journey to the west, he was trapped under a mountain for 500 years, but before he was trapped under the mountain, he did all that stuff he did in the story, yes but he also traveled a bit, and actually made it to Greece (also basically all the way to each of the four corners of Afro-Eurasia) but while he was in Greece, he was also also known as Autolycus (grandfather to Odysseus).



During and after the journey to the west, even though he is still pretty prideful, he has learned through experience humility. And because of that, even though it is unconventional, he is designated as the angel of humility.
