The Kaliningrad Armed Forces.
Abbreviation - KAF The Kaliningrad Armed Forces was founded in 1992, formed after the signing of the Novkina treaty of '92, which gave Kaliningrad independence from the new Russian Federation after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The KAF is considered by most military experts as a defensive force, as its three major branches all vary significantly in size from one another, and the equipment they host can also vary in quality, as most of the military uses old soviet era equipment, only slightly modernizing around the mid-2000s by trading with Russia and other eastern and former communist states. Its weakest branch is the Navy, having a max of only nine ships at its peak, seven of which were former soviet ships left over in port during the USSR's collapse. The number of active duty personnel in the KAF's Navy at its peak was only about 9255. The second weakest branch of the KAF is the Air Force, with only a small number of fighter jets and logistic aircraft. The strength of the Kaliningrad Air Force mostly comes from its fleet of old and new helicopters, most of them being the older type from the soviet union once again. The Kaliningrad Air Forces active duty personnel during its operating peak were about 16,300 airmen and assistance personnel. Lastly, the Kaliningrad Army is the backbone of the KAF. During its peak, the Army had about 30,000 active duty military personnel, with about a further 17,000 operating in its sub-divisions, the Engineer Corps, Emergency Response Division, the CBRN Division, and finally the Tanker Corps, which hosted a large fleet of updated T-55s, T-64s, T-72s, T-80s, and even some T-90s. Though the T-90s remained in the single digits. During peacetime and war all branches of the KAF are under orders from the Kaliningrad Department of Defense, with the two exceptions being the Emergency Response Division and the CBRN Division, with the ERD being under the orders of the Kaliningrad Department of Internal Security, and the CBRN Division being under the orders of the Kaliningrad Department of Radiological and Chemical Investigation, however during wartime the DRCI will relinquish control to the KDD.
Though this is all its history, at least a small part of it. As the entirety of the KAF would eventually fall into shambles, thanks to foreign intervention and a nearly uncontrollable outbreak of an, at the time, unknown virus that turned a promisingly brand new, western-inspired city into a chaotic and lawless land. The KAF's downfall will be told in another time, as its downfall is one of foreign failure and an ambitious power grab by Kainingrad's former owner that doomed the soldiers, airmen, and sailors of the small military force. The eventual collapse of the KAF sent its forces that survived the start of the outbreak into the destoryed lands they once called home, with some giving up the rank, and other still loyal to the oath trying they're hardest to bring some sort of order to the land even with no form of a chain of command nor any other form of military to call in they're time of need. ---
