Kaliningrad national railway modernizatin project. (G)
6 months agoGood morning Kaliningrad.
From those at the Kaliningrad Department of Transportation, we bring some great news involving a new contract with a well-respected overseas company.
From the day the first track was laid in 1929, the Kaliningrad railway system has been the backbone of not only civilian transportation around the country, but has been a vital aspect of our trade and commerce. And we here at the KDT want to keep it that way.
However, it is clear not only to us but to the general public that the nearly one hundred-year-old railway system has started to show its age. While we have kept it up to relatively decent condition for modern standards, and for the amount of traffic it gets. The cost of such upkeep and repairs has started to cost the Kaliningrad taxpayer more and more as each year goes by. And while we have fitted each railway and subway line with better equipment and trains to not only ensure we keep up with modern standards, but also to ensure the utmost safety of our citizens, it’s clear these band-aid solutions will only cause more problems in the future.
So, in light of that unfortunate development, we have made the great choice to partner with East Japan Railway Company. To those unaware, JRC is a well-respected and established railway company that has been responsible for the creation and management of all Japanese railway lines across the entire country of Japan. Since 1987, they have created multiple railway lines that bring passengers and commerce around the island of Japan.
With great enthusiasm, they’ll be bringing the same to us. Next year, after the winter thaws, JRC, along with local Kaliningrad construction and railway companies, will break ground and begin the long process of tearing up the old tracks and railway infrastructure and replacing them with safer, modernized versions. This also comes with the possibility for civilian trains to be replaced with the new models of Japanese bullet trains, meaning the citizens of Kalingrad will be able to move across the oblast faster than ever before.
Now, with this amazing development that will surely bring Kaliningrad into an even better state than it is now, there may be some who are worried about certain aspects of the project. We have gathered the common concerns given to us about the project below.
Q - Will this take down the entire Kaliningrad railway system during the time of the project?
A - No. While the construction project is underway, there will be delays; we can be sure of that. But the railway lines and metro lines will still be active and moving cargo and citizens across the nation. Though some lines will be down during the project time span.
Q - Kaliningrad Central Station is a historical site and building. Will it be destroyed and replaced during the project?
A - Absolutely not. KCS is an amazing building that has stood the test of time through an entire world war, all the way up to now. It’s an amazing building that we are honored to be the caretakers of. We do not plan to replace it, only to fit the building with new technology and refurbish decrepit parts of the structure.
Q - While working with the JRC is interesting, will this lead to outsourcing jobs to foreigners?
A - No. We’ve worked closely with JRC and local institutions and companies to ensure we not only get an improved railway system across our country, but also ensure citizens of Kaliningrad are the ones to build it. Those working in the construction industry will be happy to hear they will be a part of the project, as contracts have been handed out to local construction companies in Kaliningrad. Rest assured, the only aspect of foreign activity will be Japanese contractors, supervisors, and foremen who will help guide local companies on the construction of the new railway system.
We will keep the people of Kaliningrad updated on any developments of the up and coming project. If you have any further concerns or questions, please reach out to us here. Our offices are open six days a week and open to the public. UPLOADED - [09/25/09]
