Herbi-more & Carni-more Saga <<< PREV | FIRST | NEXT >>>As Bill approached the peddler, he considered an alarming possibility. There'd be a lot of talk of these supposed compounds on the news, ever since the first traces had been found in the ruins of FourBucks, following Juno's rapid growth. Beasts spoke openly about the Black Market, dancing around its name but making bold claims all the same. Talking about a hive of illicit activities, where disgusting and immoral antics ran rampant. It was enough to whip anyone into a frenzy; but when they spoke of Carni-More and Herbi-More, they dialled their rhetoric up. They demonised it to the point it was silly. Altered psyches, turning herbivores into mini-carnivores and turning carnivores into kaiju. It was overblown and sensationalist.
Yet, as Bill reached the counter, he realised that there would be some folks out there eager to capitalise on such a thing. They could cobble any old chemicals together and slap a Carni-More label on it. The poor saps that bought it could be hospitalised or dead from just a sip and they'd be sauntering about with a little more cash in their pockets. The canine, now easily discernible as a wolf, certainly seemed the type to want to keep his identity secret, lest he be held accountable for a murder or three. Yet as Bill eyed him up, there was also a sense of confidence and security about him. The way those crimson eyes seemed to tell him he was trustworthy, despite a wealth of fictional media telling him the opposite. The familiarity came from somewhere and Bill wracked his mind before realising where he'd seen it before.
In his dream.
The wolf appeared to him exactly as he had in the dream. The same coat, the backpack, even the face covering. It all matched. The circumstances of their meeting was different, but there was no mistaking the similarities. Without another word, the wolf lifted a vial of the supposed Carni-More from the inside of his jacket and presented it to Bill. The tiger stood there looking at it, his arms crossed in defiance. The salvation he craved was right there before him, yet he didn't take it. He watched as the wolf rolled it back and forth through his fingers; Bill's eyes followed without fault. Was it worth the risk?
