The dream, the similarities between reality and fiction, even the ease of which he'd found someone selling Carni-More in the first place. It was too good to be true. Bill knew it, everyone would have told him the same. Yet greedy fingers struggled with the stopper on the vial. It was as though he had been possessed, his inner-self rushing to get at the sweet, growy nectar that lay within. Before one could offer a further sound argument, the potent mix of chemicals was already washing over his tongue. A sweeping torrent of bitterness cascaded over his tongue and disappeared into the abyss of his throat. Bill didn't breathe again until the vial ran dry. He wiped his lips and breathed a sigh of relief. What was to come would be good or bad, but at least he'd completed his quest.
The shopkeeper retrieved the empty vial from Bill and slipped it back into the inside of his coat; trading it for a notebook and pen. He observed Bill as the tiger waited for the changes to take effect. He jotted down notes about Bill, reminders of the research that had been conducted for this moment, hypotheses that were to be proven. He flipped and filled page after page just with the basics. Who Bill was, the things he'd seen and done, anything that he deemed necessary. Notes were made about how soon the effects might manifest, what the expected findings would be. The peddler seemed more excited about Bill drinking a sample, than Bill did.
Both stood there, one checking every inch of his body, searching for signs of tightness, or new tears in the fabric. .The other stood, idly tapping his pen against the tip of his notebook, watching, waiting...
