[L] worldbuilding entry 4: Whogizha and the self
this is the culmination of multiple years of back and forthing, a conglomeration of things i like of around 7 very similar conlangs ive built, and also probably around another 7 give or take that I’ve just up and lost the files to or actively hid from myself lest they see the light of day again.
This is Whogizha. it is english in a trenchcoat that I happen to think is very stylish. this conlang was built to be aesthetically pleasing to me and me alone :) it has no other purpose than to exist.
If you've seen older journals/posts/whatevers from me, you might have heard the name Chi'ithkikie thrown around. that was originally going to be the main conlang of my oc-verse, but i quickly fell out of liking it as it is the eldest surviving conlang i own. it was based on many even oldererer english relexes i made with the intent of them being ASMR inspired because once upon a time when i was a wee little thing i thought i was going to make youtube videos. i do not make youtube videos, and do not even animate anymore lmao. keep moving pictures away from me X3
Anyways, with the goal having shifted over the years, I had a painful falling out with Chi’ithkikie, and made a bunch of other conlangs, trying to find something I liked. I tried being more naturalistic, I tried doing whatever, I tried following tutorials, I tried taking inspiration from Agma Shwa’s Cursed Conlang Circus.
What I found was - I hated all of them. And I was starting to hate messing around with conlangs - that's why the worldbuilding entries stopped so quickly. They were mostly going to be about my conlang/s, but then i stopped conlanging so.
But in the past few months my hyperfixations on the daycare attendant and from fnaf let its grip go on me, and i fell back into thomas and friends stuff - this is all relevant im sorry it sounds like im gong on a tangent and i kinda am but hold on its going somewhere i swear plz - and what i found was that it felt much more natural to… read or watch or look at what would generally be considered ‘cringe’ stuff of the ttte community than it was for me to do the same for the fnaf community. Easier to indulge in it. And I've kinda had a refinding of myself in the weird of it all.
It is a rather freeing feeling basically finding the source of my true inner edge and just being able to exist with it rather than feel like I was forcing it or couldn’t communicate with it. And i sort of learned what the feeling of not forcing what i like actually feels like.
So this is Whogizha. It is English in a trenchcoat that I find extremely aesthetically appealing.
The grammar doesn't matter too much, since like I said - English in a trenchcoat. its VSO, but i also allow for freeword order, subject-object notation optional~ originally it was gonna be strictly OSV for funny and cus the older ‘langs did the same, but actually strictly using OSV is honestly just annoying more than anything.
Ah, here we are, the script! The image this ramble is attached to!
The bulk of this is recycled and if you’ve looked closely at my illustrations for my signature, you make have noticed that i typically have 2 - one which is just my username in all caps (CALOXYA, or as ive been recently stylizing it, CΔLOXYΔ), but also a squiggly one - that is also my username, but in the older version of this same script.
The older version had many, now removed sounds and was just a photo of my chicken scratch in my sketchbook. I actually used to write in it quite aggressively, since I was for a long time unlike Chi’ithkikie very happy with it, even when I had pretty much stopped conlanging for a while. I never posted any of it since it was all done on paper(thus shite for photographing(i am bad at phototaking)) and wasn't in a conlang, it was just actual real normal english writing. Lots of writing out the titles of videos I was watching at the time. Did it so much that the “phonetic” punctuation was made, just to notate when I was writing in English vs the few times I wrote in one of my conlangs.
I had a few other experimental scripts, like the one for Wogozil that can be seen in WB Entry 1. Also yes Wogozil gave its name to Whogizha.
But now I have an updated, new and improved version right here! So i can much more easily write in it, both for Whogizha and “phonetically” lol
Uh, you may have noticed there are 3 ways to write /n/.
The (gn) and (ng) are how /n/ is written when it is the initial or final consonant of a word respectively. This is done entirely because I think it's neat. If a prefix/suffix/whatever alters /n/’s position to be within the word, the silent (g) will vanish. And the same for the inverse.
(x) has a similar thing. When (x) is seen as the leading consonant, it is pronounced /z/, however /z/ can also appear as (z) as a leading consonant. Much like (gn) and (ng), if this (x)/z/ thing relocates from affixes it will return to a normal (z) in appearance.
However, if an (x) is the ending consonant, it is pronounced as /ks/. (x) as /ks/ does not appear within words and if it has i have technically made a mistake, but you can pretend im making it more ~naturalistic~ by being inconsistent!! X3
/h/ is kinda just here for fun, it has very little use outside of digraphs. The main place it shows up is to break up vowel clusters. Occasionally I'll in one way or another via affixes or word-mashing end up with 3+ vowels in a row, which is lowkey unpronounceable. I’ll use /ʔ/ written as (‘) to split them up into reasonable 1-2 vowel pairings (i have systems for this which i will not be divulging atm cus this is already long enough oops), but sometimes i’ll use /h/ in place of (‘).
Why is /ə/ written (eh) and not (uh)? 1, I think (eh) looks better than (uh).
2, (eh) more closely follows my romanisation. /ʧ/ and /ʃ/ kept their english (ch) and (sh) romanisations, and i made /ʒ/ and /ʍ/ into (zh) and (wh) to match /z/ and /w/.
I mean i also kept the english romanisations of /kw/ /ks/ and /ʤ/ as (q) (x) and (j) so (o ___ o; )
...
also yes i know i designed the layout of the glyphs/sounds left to right-top to bottom instead of top to bottom-left to right like the script is actually written and as the punctuation is laid out. i only noticed that closer to when i ws finished but i got them so well lined up neat and tidy in their little boxes i am not redoing that.
I… think that's about all I have to ramble about this time???
