PART # The Beginning-=-Gather my daughters and my sons. Gather my nephews and nieces. Hear my shamisen and I will tell you the story of how we came to be here in the New World. How it begins will not be my voice. It will be my voice. You may think it sounds silly of sweet Tama-Chan to speak so deep and strange, but I should tell you all I wasn't always like this. When things started it had not been my story. I had been dreaming the life of someone else.
I was once a man. I was human. I dreamt it. I loved it. It is such a distant memory and the details of my life as it had been I have forgotten. I was once a man who struggled to make an identity for himself. To make a name for himself. I was not rich or successful. I was often very poor. But I was happy and I had my friends. I would bring them with me to come and celebrate Capcom.
Hm? What's that? They were a company. What's a company? Well, like the traders who stop by selling toys and fireworks and dango. But bigger. More organized. They were entertainers who produced stories that brought joy to millions. You may have heard some monsterkin on the street speak of street fighter or ghouls n' ghosts or even the legendary blue bomber.
But at some point, through mysterious means, they ascended to something much more. They are now our creators, too--they are our gods. They made us who we are. They continue to entertain, but they made all of this world, everything you see in the New World. They made all of this for us. Now they are gone but more Monsterkin arrive every month or so, building new villages of their own and helping the lands grow. We do not see our Lords as much now. But we all remember what they did for us.
Now much of what I will talk about will not make sense. But they are not entirely important. They no longer matter now. But you will learn of our story and what brought us here.

In the beginning, it had only been three of us--
Blackhorn Buck,
tofubread and I. It had been too long since a Capcom Convention had been held stateside. Of course, the city [REDACTED] would get flooded with people coming from all across the country to participate. Hotels were jam-packed and the streets flooded with cosplayers, fans, and public service folk keeping everything in control. The convention center was located in the center of downtown--a wide open and spacious bazaar of various kiosks and overpriced merchandise. Traffic was jam-packed with VIP con-goers trying to look for the best deals on opening day. Those who were super eager to buy stuff would come in as early as eight in the morning to wait in line through noon just to get inside.
Even that was getting ahead of ourselves. We still had all our stuff along with us. Fortunately, the Hotel Services for the convention were connected directly to the convention hall. We still had to wait in line however to get to the staff for our keys to our room. So of course, that only meant we would have less time today to see and buy anything today.
Though I wasn't dumb enough to buy the basic convention pass--a kind of ticket like for a fair--I had wished I hadn't settled for something as middle-ranking as the Gold Pass; what that meant was despite having higher privileges, we would all have to wait our turn, like the others. Only those with exceptionally large amounts of money would get to have the first picks to everything. I never liked being so goddamn poor.
I supppose you could say I was a middle-sized white human with the kind of weight you'd expect from a typical convention goer--that is, to say, quite pudgy. My hair was a mop of sandy brown and his face clean shaven. I wore a plain blue jeans and hightops and I had a backpack strapped to myself as I walked into the hall for the first time. It was a Palico-themed backpack where he carried stuff for getting autographs and for storing whatever merchandaise could be salvaged.
Eventually, hours passed and the line eventually cleared out for us to make way into the glory of the convention. I had never been so excited in my life. We should have prioritized our hotel room but there was just so much to see. Surely a bit of sight-seeing was warranted?
As I pushed up my crooked glasses, leading my friends behind, I pointed ahead in excitement at the eight hundred pound man-gorilla in wrestler street fighter gear. "Holy shit! It's a Mike Haggar look alike! He's even got a lead pipe! Guys! Someone get a photo of me with him!"
Tofu, or Dan, had been invited to this event on a whim--he'd decided he was willing to come along with me to humor me. Seeing the Mike Hagger look alike just made him really think of the old school beat-em-up game, as well as Streets of Rage but that was neither here nor there. Much like myself, he didn't have much on him for this trip, and felt pretty bad he had to be fickle with his purchases.
Zwei, or Jack, chuckled as he followed us around, admiring the cosplays on display. Going to a convention was a rare treat, and splurging on anything higher than the basic entry rarer still. But despite some of the waiting, he hadn't been disappointed yet. So far, things had been fun, and he hadn't spent a lot of money. Yet, anyhow. Both of us knew better; he would eventually.
After getting my photo, they handed my phone back and looked on at the various number of cosplayers out there. I noticed a large number of monster hunter cosplayers. You had the common hunters in armor, of course, but there were also the monsters themselves who ranged in quality. Sadly, the most I could offer was a pair of mizutsune "ears" and the tail. Which were in my backpack.
I watched on in awe of a life-like Tigrex man flexing for some congoers. Where did he get a suit like that, I had wondered? And what was that thing he was wearing on his wrist? "That suit must've cost a few thousand. Never seen so much articulation before."
I can see some of you looking at me weird--weirder than this man's voice that isn't my own. Oh, yeah. he was real. Ha ha. He was plenty real. I didn't know at the time. But he had come all the way from the New World to entertain us. Our Lords were very generous to bring him here.
"I would imagine it must've been. Just look at the detail!" Tofu replied. He couldn't come up with a cosplay himself and just stuck with his clothes; he wasn't too comfortable just having a thing on and called it a day.
"That had to have cost a pretty penny." Zwei whistled, adjusting his arm dragging his suitcase as he passed by a group of people dressed like felyne helpers.
"quite a few of these things seem to cost that. Is there nothing here that's even affordable?!" Arin hissed under his breath. That was until he turned his head and spotted something in flashing lights. Several signs in multiple languages were pointing to stuff that was cheap. "Oh, guys! Look over there. I wonder what that is."
"...That's highly suspect dude." Tofu replied, giving off a deadpan look to his friend
"What? Nah, you're just being silly." I shrugged. "What do you think this is, a cartoon?"
"I don't know. It does look kinda suspect, yeah..." Zwei agreed with Tofu, but in a hesitant kind of way.
"It really does dude," Tofu insisted. "Let's just find our hotel room already and then worry about the bazaar."
"Oh, c'mon. It's a convention. What's the worst that could happen?" I begged them. I didn't know why I was so obssessed with going to see that place. It just felt right. A feeling in my gut. As you'd all soon find out, it was in fact what would eventually to my true destiny. But to Tofu and Zwei, it was just any other rubbish shop they could find in a million other displays and advertisements to boot. No matter how I argued, it was no good.
Eventually, I decided to agree with my friends and have us check into our rooms. Maybe after we settled down we could explore what the place had to offer. But oh, what we'd soon discover when we explored. Or should I say, me.

I had just gotten my claws on some very interesting funding. I am using that now to complete who segments of the story that we weren't able to complete before. So it will be all posted out of order and the links will be adjusted to help make sense of the story. This one was illustrated by
