"Stay out of this you overweight overgrown lizard! My Polterknights have this completely handled, and you'll just get in the way!" -King Oldbeard before Hyembs runs up and decks the rampaging Kaiju in the faceA king, an enchanter, and despite all of his evil schemes and plots that he hides from the public, he's still adored by a small majority of his people. King Oldbeard is the ruler of Grandiopolis and is ironically named from his long-forgotten father, King Boldstache. King Boldstache was never able to grow a mustache, and King Oldbeard was never able to grow a beard. Even more strange is that he was always known as King Oldbeard, even in his early days of ruling. Despite how silly all of this sounds, King Oldbeard is quite the revered individual. In his early days of ruling there was a massive uproar as his father put the kingdom into quite the delicate situation. His father banished all the dragons and the wizard who made them, and his son had to take the throne.

Grandiopolis was shrinking, the Kaiju problem was getting out of control and general unrest was running rampant through the streets. King Oldbeard decided to rekindle the hope in his people by fighting these Kaiju personally with his various suits of gigantic magical armor and his extremely brave knights. King Oldbeard would be recognized as a hero and eventually the fame and fortune would go to his head. Nowadays people are much more cautious of the king as he builds gigantic sectors of the town in glory to himself and past deeds. He now also very rarely gets his hands dirty when it comes to fighting the monsters that attack Grandiopolis and would rather have his Polterknights deal with the issue. He cannot remotely stand the idea of Hyembs the Dragon stealing any of his personal glory and refuses to have Grandiopolis acknowledge her as one of its main protectors.

King Oldbeard is volatile, cunning and the biggest downfall is his own ego. It is to note that many of the problems or why the Kaijus or monsters begin to invade in the first place at this point is thanks to his actions. Such as chopping down large, protected forest for a golf course or attracting an extremely greedy dragon by obtaining a gigantic golden statue of himself that dominates the town. It's even rumored he sometimes hires Kaijus from a mysterious "cult" to try and get rid of Hyembs or to keep his people in line...

(To be blunt about this design documentation: King Oldbeard is meant to be extremely silly, but still an endearing character who's cunning and evil and his failures are meant to be linked back to his own wrongdoings. He is the antagonistic force for the Hyembs the Dragon series and is another character meant to be drawn "expressive" with many circles in design. Funny ideas include him rolling off ramps and slopes in his castle for quick transport and multiple forms of slapstick comedy on how he treats his Polterknights.)Never really had a post dedicated to Oldbeard, who he is, what he does, etc- soooo this quick "design document" should clear some things up with what I had in mind with the character. Unlike the lore logs in Skin to Scales, these are meant to be more... Design ideas, thoughts of how I'm going to be moving things forward, my guidelines and basis for characters in the Hyembs the Dragon setting, that sort of thing

The universe that Hyembs belongs to does not connect to the greater setting I'm working on of "Skin to Scales" and is meant to be a way more cuddly, cute, silly, and adorable setting in comparison to my main works. "Hyembs the Dragon" is about a pink, airheaded dragon who is the self-proclaimed defender of "Grandiopolis." the last bastion of civilization in a fairy-tale world filled with kaiju and monsters that would want to see it destroyed. A powerful wizard created the dragons, but one day vanished as well as many of his creations decided to defect from defending this world. Hyembs the Dragon woke up centuries late and refuses to deny her absent creator's will and does not wish to see humanity and the good creatures of the world to be destroyed. Her and her Kobold Knights, and new Kaiju friends will defend what's left of the world at all costs from not only the monsters, but making sure King Oldbeard doesn't destroy his own kingdom.
