"When it comes to Vampiric Mandrakes, we should probably get a few things out of the way first. One of these is that most Vampiric Mandrakes were directly created by the "Mother in White", one of the Leeches of Yggdrasil, especially in the Creation of Cycle 10. With Eda Sap being absent, her original plans to create the Mandrakes into a "sanguine" species was put into action. Her creations entirely dominate, and the original Mandrakes of Cycle 9 are practically extinct. Soddles of course getting the last laugh at the end of the day as their species was entirely unaffected.
Mandrakes need to leech off life for them to sustain themselves. Calling them blooddrinkers isn't entirely accurate as they consume the very soul and life force itself from their victims. These Mandrakes are also infinitely more powerful than their previous versions from Cycle 9. Such as infusing them with soul-based magic or even being able to transform themselves into giant leeches. This is most reflected in their teeth seeming toothy at first, before you realize their award-winning smiles. The legends never did stop about using clippings of their ears to brew an elixir of eternal life and cure all wounds. It just became partially, true, but it's mostly done through rituals and there's no amount of "clipping their ears" really involved with it. These Mandrakes are still ageless all the same and most of them can be thousands or even millions of years old. They're just incredibly rare and not many of them seemingly exist.
Frankly, they gained quite the reputation around the Outer Stars as their spaceships were freely able to travel in and out of the Realm of Materia. Usually, they would take small jobs doing mercenary work, and or enjoyed the extreme luxuries of planets built entirely for entertainment. Many of these Mandrakes are absurdly rich and powerful and I can see why Hunter is usually dead afraid of them. (Which is even more ironic considering her wife, Rain, actually is a Vampire, but--) Anyways, I'm not sure if there's much else to be said. I suppose these Mandrakes are also a bit taller, usually being around 3-5 ft in length... and not even mentioning on how they can transform into leeches and stuff... Hm...
I'm- I'm sorry, I'm just- Mother in White keeps showing me her teeth over and over again as I write this log, quite physically, just by my shoulder, but at least I did a better job than Proto, I uh, but... She says that's not a very high bar to set... I wish everyone would be nicer to Proto, but sometimes he really does it to himself. Especially with how rude he can be to others." ~Thomza Materia
(...Funny Teeth...) (Hmm... Funny Teeth...)
Hee-Ho, howdy everyone. Today I bring you a complete REWORK and REMAKE of an old Data Log that I felt really, really needed some touch-ups... So! Leave it Thomza to talk about it and give it a WHOOOOLE lot more lore and context than Commander Proto. If you want to like-- See more about Mandrakes? Check that out on my DA page, or there will be some stuff on my FA page- or something- sorry sorting is really hard for FA
This is also like, one of the longest data logs it took me to complete. It was mostly the complexity of the armor, the ears, really putting it all in for the Mother in White since she's basically a god-like being who was once part of a leech-looking tiamat, but still- haha- Like... most doodles I do take me like 20-50 minutes or so? This one took me over 7-8 hours, which is, crazy to me really, but I really, REALLY, wanted to rework that log- I thought of giving the leech more dragon properties, but I think it's fine as it is
Until next time lads.
Disclaimer and Copyright: These characters involved, and the artwork belongs to me, TwistedHensley. The Skin to Scales Universe also belongs to me there, TwistedHensley... You get the drill. I want to point out that this is an Epic Dark Fantasy setting with a lot of mythological and religious tones and that there is no real-life connection to any of these events, religions, characters and it is fully, grounded, in fantasy. There is no copyright infringement also intended to other forms of media as Skin to Scales is meant to be its own thing and something I've been working on for a very long time. This is the same setting where faith is a massive part of the magic system, and it is usually meant to have a very bright and colorful art style to help balance the tone.

Fun Factoid: Mandrakes are still, yes, inspired by Pikmin, and a friend asked me if she's based off any of my Pikmin OCs and the answer is a resounding, "No"- She's just a part of the Cycle 9 storyline, she's been around for a while, I just... Have a hard time illustrating a lot of important characters lmfao, I'm basically a one woman party most of the time... Even like looking back on the question, I'm a little confused by it, I mean, I don't know as I'm really trying to like say "Yes, inspired, but not related in any way possible" haha
