Just wanted to try out some stuff... I've been annoyed by my inability to paint decent clouds so I thought I'd put some time into it. Did a few practice doodles, then eventually sat down and hammered this out. It really didn't work as well as I'd hoped though, I'm going to have to keep searching for another method for clouds, I think.
I also saw a bit of a tutorial on waves so I thought I'd give that a go. Coulda gone worse, coulda gone better, overall not too bad though.
This is less of an actual painting and more a combination of individual effects I wanted to piddle with. I know there's not much going on, and it's got issues, it's kinda clunky and transitions aren't very smooth and the clouds are awful. xD Consider this more of a practice sketch than anything.
Better luck next time, I suppose! I'll figure those clouds out someday. x3

-MAYBE- the water is a bit -too- blue, but otherwise the colors seem pretty good. Maybe it could pass off as a really good reflection (lol) but otherwise it looks pretty good.
BTW as for the "abrupt" change from calm to the wave - It's a major problem I've had as well. It's a huge pain, I swear. XD

i think your water needs to be blended a little bit more and theres not enough variations in the colors, it seems almost like its trying to be the perfect blue ocean, also your clouds still look a bit flat, have you tried doing a small study outside? just so you can get the feel of how clouds flow and you can get the right shapes and tones. another thing is it looks like it dosent have a definite light source and i think that may be whats throwing you off with the cloud thing
S'all good, though I already noticed most of that. x3 Knowing what's off is pretty easy, which is why I usually mention it somewhere in the description, so people are aware I see it already. The tricky part is making the right thing happen, which isn't always as easy. :P
This actually looks really nice, probably better than you think. The water and clouds look pretty realistic to me. You can have waves that come abruptly out of a smooth ocean like that, when you have what's called a shore break.
The one thing that bothers me is the horizon, it should be more flat, unless you're trying to depict an island off in the distance.
I really like it though.

Was surprisingly easy, I just took a dry fan brush, dipped a bit of white paint on it and gently dragged it across the water. Background details like that are usually fairly simple, it's the middleground I have the most trouble with. Had no idea how to transition smoothly between the big waves and the background glinting, so in this one I just sorta... didn't. xD
Hhe, nice blue x3
I think the clouds a quite good :3 But I saw some interesting thing http://www.myimg.de/?img=plane490ed.jpg looks like a plane for me xD
The waves are beautiful already!

Wow!
That looks just like the Hamptons on a summer North-west wind. Hot, bright, clear and just enough wind to blow the waves down a bit and make it mostly flat.
I like how you brought out the sunlight on the waves, too!
Once again, the thumbnail looks exactly like a photo. This is outstanding work!
Heh! Next time I get one of your commissions, think you might be willing to do the Treant / LOTR Ent pic I suggested?

Probably not :P There's a pretty big difference between a randomly generated landscape and living trees/special effects and such. x3 I still don't think it's my type of thing and I'd likely not do a terribly great job of it.
But I'm glad ya like all the same :P Thanks!

Wow. I would have to disagree. Except for, perhaps, the number of clouds and how many are clumped together, I'd say you were very successful on working the sky. Also, your waves look fantastic. Not just the rolling near one, but the sparkling undulations in the background are perfect! Ugh… things like water and fire and clouds are my bane. They are too random, so I can't make them look natural. XD
Great stuff, btw. Awesome to see you pushing your limits! ^_^

http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5382055/ Take a look at the clouds in that pic. (God, I gotta start working on this thing again! LOL)
The main thing I can say is continue to reference other pictures and btw - don't try to be stuck doing only clouds like this 'cause it can be a pain once you've trained on only one style... That's one major mistake I made.
Another thing that might come in handy, depending on your medium is to watch some Bob Ross clips. Might give you at least a good starting point with certain clouds.
