Description: Verna, growing up, happily ran around the Ars Goetia’s Palace, sometimes playing with the other kids of the Goetian family. As he got older, he spent time with Slineir, being trained by her as one of her airborne troops and as a Guard for the Ars Goetia Lord. He excelled at hand-to-hand, aerial, and ranged combat with a Crossbow and Bow and Arrow, even learning some basic magic from one of the Goetian sorcerers. This magic was mostly basic elemental spells, allowing him to do basic fire or lightning magic. He started studying in one of the Grimoires one of the Goetian Princes had, learning more about how the Goetia traveled to and from Hell and Earth without needing a Gate or Passageway.
When he turned 17, however, his life would never be the same. He had been assigned as one of the Guards to the Goetia Throne, protecting the throne and the Ars Goetia Lord, Helina, a massive Hatzegopteryx, when an assassination attempt by a rogue Goetian, an Anthro Eagle, took place while she was sleeping. Verna, loyal to Helina, was quick to leap to action, fighting against the Eagle who had gone mad with power and wanted the throne for themself. Helina woke to the sounds of weapons clashing and birds fighting to see Verna protecting her, just in time to witness the Eagle block a strike from Verna and claw across his face, blinding him effectively as Verna stumbled back from the attack, snarling a bit before using the scent of the Eagle to find him. After pinpointing the Eagle’s scent, he quickly lunged out with a screeching roar of anger, feeling his glaive strike the Eagle’s chest, finally taking it down as he dropped his glaive with the now limp body as he panted.
He felt Helina’s claw under his chin as his head was aimed up by the claw to face her, “You have done your duty, Verna. You’ve shown your loyalty and protected me from that rogue Goetian. You are dismissed. You need rest.” she told him as he nodded, grabbing around for his glaive before she pulled it out of the Eagle and handed it to him as he used it to feel his way from her chambers and get somewhere to bandage himself after that fight. Eventually, with the help of another guard, he made his way to an Infirmary, being bandaged up before going to his room to rest from that fight. He spent the first few months after that fight practicing using his Glaive as a walking stick to make his way around the palace before the Seer Alora approached him, someone who could normally see into the future, but she was also a giver of sight. She led him to her office where she helped him sit down and started talking to him….about a way to regain his sight.
Verna was initially skeptical, but the mere thought of having a chance to see again made him want to give her a chance. She started talking, “Alright, Verna, just clear your mind, reach out with it, and concentrate on feeling for my spirit and aura. Let me know when you see it.” Verna did as instructed, clearing his mind and reaching out mentally, soon seeing a distorted and fuzzy figure after some struggling, “I…think I see something. It’s incredibly fuzzy though, ma’am…” he spoke out, shuddering a bit as it was extremely weird for him at the moment. “Very good, you remember my species, correct? I’m a Pterodactyl covered in fluff and colored like a Crowned Eagle. Reach out with your mind to that figure, and try to envision what I look like. If you’re successful..my soul and aura, the very thing you’re currently seeing...should shape itself to match my form and the way I am sitting.” she instructed him.
He continued to listen to her instructions, trying to reach out to the figure and shape it by envisioning her description, the figure glitching out and starting to fade some as he grunted, failing at first as she consoled him, “Easy, Verna, you’re not my first patient with this kind of condition, not everyone will get it done on the first try, find my aura again, then take your time.” Verna, feeling better after her kind words, tried again, taking it a bit slower as the fuzzy and distorted figure came back into view. Taking a deep breath as he started the process, the figure getting wavy at first before it began to take the shape of the Pterodactyl lady he was talking to, her color slowly appearing albeit not as bright, “I….I think I did it! A-although, it’s not in full color, ma’am.” He could now see as she would nod her head in response and walk over to him, “Not everyone can master this ability right away to the point they’ve got complete restoration to their ability to see without their eyes. With time, dear, you might be able to regain that ability. One thing that comes as a basic part of this ability, however, is to see your surroundings so that you can use your….’walking stick’ for the purpose it was made for….to fight.” He gasped a bit as she said that last part, “Y…you mean…I can still be a Guard for our Lord Helina? T…thank you, ma’am…so much.” he said happily as he hugged her, before grabbing his Glaive and heading to the door, being stopped briefly as she handed him a book, “Practice trying to find this, and soon enough you’ll be able to read too, and then use the book to better your ability, Verna…have a great day.”
He nodded and took the book in hand, returning to his room to practice this new ability of his, something that, as he managed to start reading again, was an advanced and modified form of Soul Seeing/Reading, meant to help people like him that had lost their eyes or had gone completely blind. He thanked whoever had developed this modified form under his breath and, as he grew older, got better at the ability. 13 years later he was now in his early thirties, having gotten incredibly good at it and able to see the world around him in a 2-mile radius when in combat, up to 8-10 miles when he is relaxed, hanging out with friends, or exploring. He may not see the full-color spectrum yet, but he was more than happy to see what he was able to, and made visits to the Seer he met back then whenever he could, chatting with her and having a great time telling her some of the accomplishments in his spare time practicing.

Intruiging backstory! Reminds me of the Miraluka from StarWars (old starwars not this new bullshit).
They were a species near-humans that saw the world not with their eyes (they actually did not have eyes), but saw through the force -so they see your outlines and aura, especially your alignment in the force.
