The Rensburg family name is one that is well known around the world, probably more so than the Kennicot family when it comes to the most influential houses and magick users in history. Though while their power has waned over the century they still hold a lot of sway in global politics as diplomats and not publically known also spies, Elenore being no exception as a former diplomat and spy. Since her retirement as a spy she has ran a shop dealing in mostly spell scrolls, but also potions and enchantments all of which she created herself rather than havign them imported or commissioned by the traditional magick craftspersons. Though while she enjoyed running the shop it had always been mostly an excuse to stay out of an arranged marriage set up by her parents but unbeknown to her parents it was also an excuse for her to study the technological disciplines especially the electric and mechanical disciplines with some sprinkling of chemistry but her real mastery was in the automata constructs which she considers a superior method of construct over golems or even summoned elementals.

Now normally it would be quite impossible to balance the technological aptitude with her magick one as they are conflicting in that magick bends natural forces to the mage's will while technology works with the laws of nature and physics so a mage normally can't use technology without risk of injury and same for those with technological aptitude don't get much benefit from magickal items or suffer damaging effects. Though as Elenore discovered there are sometimes exceptions in these laws and some things are even so similar that there are few or no adverse effects, such as alchemical potions and the technological disciplnes of herbology and therapeuthics to create salves and medicinal elixirs. Now due to her high magick aptitude Elenore can barely even touch technological items but she was born with the day mage blessing which meant that her magick was the most powerful during the day and weakened signifficantly at night, enough so that her aptitude becomes more neutral and she is able to use technology at night. This allowed her to be more successful as a spy as she got quite adept at picking locks and disarming traps that she would normally use cantrips for during the day.

Over time Elenore became more and more interested in the new technological wonders such as trains and airships, but airships in particular were of great interest to her as the new way of travel for everyone. Everyone except for quite a few mages who lost their power whenever one of these airships was around, so the council requested Elenore to act as a representative for them on behalf of concerned mages when one of the newest models from Kennicot shipyards was being inveiled. That is where she met Hester for the first time and the two of them hit it off remarkably well despite the initial uncomfortable first meeting due to Hester having had a number of sabotage attempts by mages recently. But as Elenore showed a genuine interest and excitement in airship design and even offered some suggestions for improvements she quickly dropped any suspicion and they would meet up more regularly to compare notes. Ofcourse Elenore's parents would still pester her with the arranged marriage and urged her to return home. Naturally she did not want any of that especially now that she had been enjoying her time spent with Hester working on new designs and solutions to construction methods. So out of desperation she proposed to Hester out of the blue, which caused her family to nearly disown her had Hester not agreed and they finally came to begrudgingly accept Elenore's choice, afterall the Hedersett family was still a well respected family despite the activities of the latest heir, but since Hester employed mages in the construction process it also seemed like a bridge to the future which had seemed uncertain for magick users in the new technological age.
