This is, quite simply, a Common Blue butterfly resting briefly on a grass stem. Taken in August 2010 at Chew Valley Lake, the largest inland body of water in south-west England.

Thank you! Butterfly photos are interesting to take -- if you're careful not to let your shadow fall on them, they'll often let you get surprisingly close. Yes, the blurring was intentional, though really I should have used f/2.8 rather than f/4 to accentuate the shallowness of the depth of field. Mind you, there's only so much you can do with that with a compact camera anyway.
I keep missing your photos, somehow. They just don't seem to show up on my new submissions screen. That just means I'll have to lurk around your page more often! That is quite the blue butterfly! It's very pretty, though, and this is a wonderful shot. It looks so fluffy and petable, even though I know better than to ever touch a butterfly.
I don't know what's going on with the update notifications; they're clearly not working properly for a lot of people, and it's very irritating. But you're certainly very welcome any time you feel like dropping in here! And yes, it is very blue indeed, though the sun was pretty bright at that point and perhaps the camera accentuated the colour a little more than it might have done. But thank you very much, of course. =:)
As for touching, naturally I wouldn't reach out to one, but every so often I've had one come and perch on me, and that's always been something I've found rather special. =:)
