This morning, after the Irish-language St. Patrick's Day Mass at St. Agnes' on East 43rd, I managed to cross Fifth Avenue in the teeth of the parade, and head over to my club (The University of Pennsylvania Club), and the Grill Room therein, where I ordered today's special: no prizes for guessing what it was.
No prizes, also, for how long it lasted.
Major Matt Mason was making jokes last night as to whether he was going to be hearing mink-feeding sounds in Northwest Arkansas. All I can say was: it was damned good, and a pity my late father wasn't around to have a dish of his own -- he loved it.
# the Irish words for American mink are: Minc Mheiriceanach; for stoat, Easog; for pine marten, cat crainn.
