Miguel Rodrigo Jesus Alfredo Estevan De Zaragosa, or simply Miguel is the manservant to Don Juan of the whip cracking & sword fighting comedy duo Don Juan & Miguel. They are one of the few acts that have performed the Arizona Renaissance Festival every year since its first season 35 years ago. I caught Miguel for a selfie while he was out roaming and chatting among the attendees. He even said when he saw me in the audience during an earlier show, he was considering saying a joke that he “was the original furry” while showing his VERY hairy chest.
It wasn’t just the other attendees but also several of the performers that gave great positive responses to seeing Kass. One of the lane performers (people hired by the faire to roam around and interact) came up with a great line “welcome to our shire great Rito. I have seen legendary heroes you may be familiar with but I must warn you that their breath can be a bit wild.” That was early into the day and that was REALLY encouraging to have that level of a character recognition interaction.
As a (bird) bard I was also giving back by giving a couple dollars to some of the musical buskers that would set up at various places. It just felt so right to do. Especially when after the closing cannon and making my way towards the front gate, I heard a harpist playing the LOZ Fairy Fountain theme and just had to detour and drop $5 in appreciation. I honestly don’t think they were even doing it for me since they were teaching other people about playing the harp and such.
And one last moment I had while near the front was Don Quixote stepping into my path with his wooden lance held upright to “confront” me. “I have no quarrels with you but I could only imagine how gigantic the pirate is who you accompany and I cannot allow them to continue their reign of terror.” I did propose “what if I were to tell you I have a little pirate that sits on my shoulder” to which he replied “I’ll get back to you on that.”

OP
There is something extra about being surrounded by live interactive theatre like that. Suiting the faire is especially fun with those performers who are practiced at engaging with passersby. It’s more than just suiting at the park or even a comic con since the good ones can lead to character-to-character interactions and not just treating you like a walking mascot. It also helps that the Arizona faire leans more on embracing the fantasy elements (we have a dragon, fairy, and mermaids as hired performers).

I absolutely agree. Being able to encapsulate now the character acts really brings the entire experience to a whole new level, and not only for the onlookers. That's something I personally need to work more on. Haha~
