Not at all.
The alpha-beta-omega nonsense was from a bad study of adult wolves in a captive environment, none of whom had grown up together, and was more akin to studying human social dynamics by looking at a prison gang.
Original author has admitted as much; a natural wolf pack is a family, simple as.
This reads more like a prison gang than a family.

gristle's blunt and maybe scathing remarks about her bringing red back home despite his injuries is calling to mind a quote i cant source, about how one of the first signs of human society was someone who'd died of old age with a healed broken bone. i had a hunch, but at least some of the wolves seem to be moving in a similar direction as the prey are!
At least some species of animal do take care of their injured! Typically predatory gregarious ones. There was a smilodon skeleton unearthed that had a healed injury in their hind leg: a broken bone that mended. The injury would have left them both vulnerable to other predators, and unable to care for themselves. But the break healed fully. How is that possible, unless that individual's group supported them?
