Just a friendly dragon barista to warm up your day :)
I showed off Mel here about two years ago and haven't shown him in much since, so this probably seems like quite the random thing to post here. Honestly, it was a random choice by me to even work on this picture in the first place! I had this sketch from late last year and wanted to practice coloring in a different fashion to keep more of my lineart. This was simple enough for the experiment and gave me a great opportunity to better understand Mel's color palette at the same time. I can safely say that I'm quite happy with the end result here as far as the linework goes. It creates a different, more textured look, and I feel like it makes my work look a little less sterile. I want to try it again on a bigger picture sometime soon.
What do you all think of this style? Please let me know!
Oh, and if folks are curious about Mel himself, he's a very minor character in terms of story. He moonlights as a barista when he's not doing work for construction in Keeton. Sweet guy, and he was even in the background of a recent comic that I posted! And, yes, he's well aware that his paws are somewhat eye-catching ;)
