(NMA) Deer Hunter

Not a hunter who hunts deer, mind you; but rather, a deer who is a hunter!
Another art piece that was illustrated by
Buieb, except on this occasion it was as a timed commission for
RodonEndwell that I wasn't responsible for paying for and I suppose would therefore qualify as a "gift" for me. It depicts August in his Autumn forme and Rodon's wolf character that he developed originally for a Dungeons & Dragons campaign, who in reality is actually a kobold paladin who is blessed/cursed to transform into a lupine under certain circumstances... luckily, he still possesses an array of human reflexes similar to his current companion and is capable of utilizing the majority of his armaments, even if he doesn't seem to do it often. I'm not entirely certain how August managed to get here since they both hail from different universes, but currently they're making the most of it, as August is trying his hand (hoof?) at practicing to become a Sawsbuck ranger!
Honestly, I don't really remember how the concept for this one came about. Rodon pitched it to me with a reference image a month or two ago, and I was skeptical initially because I had no idea how August would even wield a bow, with the absence of opposable thumbs (or any fingers to begin with). But at one point I was discussing the possibility of creating an OC in a similar vein to Cederic in a D&D setting who was a feral animal, yet still capable of adopting human postures to go on adventures... and one of the ideas I bounced off of him was a "deer ranger", so maybe that was the inspiration! I think we eventually settled on a horse, though.
Poor August looks way over his head here. See the sweat beads clinging to his face? It takes a lot of jaw strength to pull a bow string with only your mouth!
