Angel Missionary Basic Concept Art and Anatomy Discussion
I've been working with Twisted Hensley on the Skin to Scales setting, primarily on mythology and the greater scope of the universe along side multiple others, although no single person works on any single component of the setting. This is where I will lay out and detail somewhat on my current conceptualization of Angels of this setting. Angels, children of El, the divine seer and pillar of Wisdom are most commonly defined by being strange entities of which no two are alike, each one an alien and unique creation. Although this is not entirely true all Angels have a number of traits in common, the Soul which is separated into two distinct parts, the Light, the Halo, and the Body. While this may seem extremely broad, that is because it is, as outside of those broad descriptions Angels are formed entirely individually.
First, the Light of the Soul, and how an Angel's Soul is distinct from other forms of Souls. Unlike mortal species who's souls are immaterial and protected, an Angel's soul is partially physical and separated into two parts, the Light is the physical externalized aspect of their Soul and the source of Angelic life and Magic. A nascant light is no more bright than a Candle, and over time it will be fed and nurtured by more mature Angels in a communal environment. Once the Light has developed enough to mature, a Halo will form. The Halo is how an Angel channels their innate power created from their Light, and is the immaterial aspect of their soul much akin to a Mortals, although very different. Should an Angel's Light be extinguished, their Halo will pass on, and should it be too deeply damaged it will be unable to be resurrected.
Once an Angel's Halo forms, it will be considered an adolescent, and begin to form as a person from then on as they will slowly form their Body over the next years of their life. Their body will form dependent on their internal nature and how they express themselves, as they mature into an adult they will quite literally self actualize the body that most befits themselves, including aspects such as anatomy, gender, and overall biology. The final aspect many Angels create is a Shell around their Light, to protect and keep it safe, but also a common symbol of how as adults many people keep their most deep and cherished parts of their heart closed off from harm, to only open and expose to their closest friends and loved ones. Once the Shell is created around their Light, their body is finalized and can no longer be altered unless a radical change in identity or personality occurs, and they are now considered adults.
This specific Angel portrayed in the artwork is one such an Angel, although a detail not immediately apparent is that they are wearing armor, Angelic Brigandine in the torso and the waist, and a missionary to discuss and prophetize about her chosen religion... Which doesn't strictly have to be El, at the end of the day, Angels are people, like any other race.
