They're pretty much smothered in survival instincts from a young age, its easy enough to let them hunt, dig up worms, etc. so feeding em only usually needs to happen every so several days, more to be sure that if they are starving then they can eat.

Drekir child raising is a lot more hands off than humans overall so if anything I think its just a different type of headache.

You have years of half feral kids running around before they grow up and that cognitive development starts to rubberband forward and they can actually participate in proper society

What do you mean by human areas? Like colonies? If so no.

But there is a perspective similar to that that is ocmmon amongst a lot of drekir societies, though "pet" is a bit overkill of a word

Yeah I meant human colonies. I can see some drekir who's job is to watch the kids similar to like a kennel master.

Generally the preferred option in regards to human colonies and drekified colonists (colonial drekir) is to just not have kids.
Colonies are operating on tight budgets with specific goals so having kids running around the base is an absolute no.
