I found myself today with nothing on me but my brush pens for doodling. So I
drew this :) And I also realized that I'd skipped the facial expression process stage
for Warren, which I'll go back and do because it is useful and important to cover.

That's when I do much of my thinking about the character. As in this case: I
imagine that the rest don't let Warren drive the van, because not only is he
completely color blind, he has weird hallucination/synesthesia stuff going on.

This is also why it's good to switch your tools from time to time, because even
though I've been trying for a crisp/rough graphic look for the BREMEN stuff, i do
tend to think differently when I draw with a line. And so drawing this
image reminded me of this and inspired the idea that he probably perceives
differently as well.

I can image sequences of images from his point of view that are excuses for loopy
black and white line work, perhaps typically Al Hirschfeld during clear, zen, lucid
moments, but shifting to splattery Ralph Steadman style visuals when agitated.

And I'm thinking that color will play a role in these things but it's in response to his
other senses: so music and scent will read as colors for the viewer - that is to say,
he still hears and smells, but this will enter his world visually as colors for the
reader's point of view. I hope that makes sense. I understand what I mean :P

Anyway, it's an excuse to change visual styles and to introduce fantastic/weird
imagery into a setting that could otherwise feel too grounded in naturalism (see:
the animated visuals to Pink Floyd's The Wall and how they interrupt and
frame the live action scenes).

Also, I'm thinking about each character bringing a different musical sensibility to
things, with this guy being the not just the "Yellow Submarine" type of
psychedelia, but also, the goofier Frank Zappa stuff, the "Hampster Dance",
"Flying Purple People Eater", "Sleepyhead", DEVO, "Little Fluffy Clouds", KLF, 3 Feet
High and Rising, GWAR, Tiny Tim, "911 Is A Joke", Parappa, and other off-beat, quirky,
or "gimmick" performers, bands and songs that are still notably compelling.
