BREMEN: "Warren Faces 01"

Okay, here we go. Compared to the others, I went through his process a
little out of order, but that's okay. I want to finish up the main character
designs, then I can move on to the secondary stuff.

I know that I'll have to return to design almost everything as B&W line
drawings for the "Warren vision" sequences :P But that'll be messy fun.

Along with the script, these sorts of images are going to be useful in producing a "bible" for the overall project, which would then make it easier to follow through on - that's the plan, at least.

His face is really expressive, and hounds lend themselves well to anthro art, you can find just about any facial expression there, and his droopy eyes lend well to his "laid back" personality XD

I love this guy. He just reminds me so much of my first dog, he exudes an essential dog-ness that isn't always present in dog characters, and it makes me happy.

How do you paint these images?

In photoshop?

Dark colors first, just concerned with a flat outline, then put in the mid-tones
and highlights, finishing details and whatever suggestions of texture I want.

Lot and lots of layers. I used to use a lot of transparency effects, but I'm
finding that less necessary - I'm getting better at picking the right color to
start with so things are more opaque.

I use a small wacom tablet, if that's what you mean?

I do try to think more about stuff as paintings, not line drawings, or animation cels. So, blobs of color to show form, not a hard line.

*laughs* Just installed the more recient Photoshop (student version) on my box so trying to figure out what to DO with it. I started artistically as a watercolourist, and really want to find a way to return to that with PS.
*makes a note to visit :P*

And yes "On the computer on photoshop" was what I was asking. People use different programs. I don't expect you to explain technique. :)
