What really strikes me are the similarities between the tapestry and the main characters you focused on.

Those are images of the characters in their Police Uniforms. :P

And the kids are all like, "Wow! Look at how cool they are! I wanna join Space Police!" But they have NO idea that the people they're looking at are just across the street.

in the poster, it look like the anthro is holding the pistol backwards, do they have reverse jointed hands like a Rakshasa?

I think if you saw the characters themselves holding the baton, you'd be able to tell what it is fine. It's just because it's so far away and not the focus of the piece that it seems a big vague, I think.

ahh... because of the distance and clarity it almost looked like a pistol (made sense in the setting I suppose). I suppose it has something to do with the hand position and how much of the baton is visible. I totally get it now though.

I actually suck at lineart! I think it's too hard for me to grasp it in the level I'd desire.
But I do smaller, looser things, if ever you're interested.
