A car pulls up to the curb in front of Dee's house and seeing that it's Kat driving, Dee rushes out, pulls open the door, and drops her overnite bag of clothes and toiletries on the floor as she climbs in.
Kat: Hop in Dee. It's so good to see you, even under these circumstances.
Dee: Oh mercy, Kat, I'm glad to see you too! And I'm so so sorry to call you out in the middle of the night but I didn't know what else to do. I couldn't let mom and dad see me like this!
Kat: It's fine. It's my fault anyway for trying to do a spell I was just making up as I went along. We'll get you all
fixed up though once we're back at my house.
Dee: That'll be such a relief! *reaches out to pet the huge canine head sticking over from the back seat* Oh, what a big beautiful dog! What kind is he?
Kat: Ivan isn't a dog. Hes a kind of wolf.
Dee: Oh? What kind?
Kat: Were.
Dee: We're what?
Kat: No, Were...as in werewolf. Daddy is a werewolf.
Dee: D..d...daddy?!?!
Kat: Yeah. Can't you see the family resemblance?
Dee: Are you messin' with me? You are, aren't you?
Kat: No, I'm not messing with you! Ivan is really a werewolf and he's really my father, aren't you Daddy?
Ivan: *growls and yips in the affirmative*
Dee: *gasp* But...but if...if he's your dad, then that means you're.........
Kat: Yep....but only half.*laughs and gives Dee a spooky little grin before leaning over to kiss her nose* Now, if you'll buckle up we can get going.
Dee: S..sure. *slowly buckles her seat belt and leans back with a dazed look on her face as Kat drives away towards the Rabbitfangs house*

Poor Dee. Not only has she been gender-swapped again, now her one chance to actually be alone with Kat turns out to be chaperoned after all! AND she just found out that Kat is a werewolf, too! But this is still a really sweet picture of the three of them. I love how happy Kat and Ivan look. Especially Ivan. He might be a werewolf, but he's still got that love of riding in cars that all canines seem to have. Dee's tentative little pat on his cheek is really sweet, too. She might be rather overwhelmed by everything that has happened so far, but she's still a sweet kid, and I think it's safe to say that Ivan likes her, too.
I've been looking forward to this, and it's so cute and so wonderfully well done! Salty does such amazing work and it's such a fun series!

Don't feel too sorry for Dee. Ivan already knew about and approved of her. Think of him more as a companion than a chaperone. He believes his daughter should be free to do what pleases her, and obviously this relationship with Dee is what she wants...and I think needs....right now.
As you point out, Ivan does have that universal canine love of riding in cars. He likes sticking his head out the window and letting his tongue flap in the breeze too. And if you scratch him behind the ear like Dee seems about to do, you've made a substantial beginning of being his very good friend.
Dee is going to take a little while to get used to the idea of Kat being a werewolf I imagine. But they already have a nice relationship started, so I don't think she'll be afraid of her or anything. More likely she'll be very interested in the way Kat's were part works rather than nervous about it. Of course Dee still has another bit of a surprise coming when she meets Liane and finds out that Kat is not only a werewolf but a vampire as well. That might be a pretty big bite to chew, but I have faith. Dee seems to have a darn strong personality from what we've seen so far. I think she'll adjust without too much problem.
I'm so glad you're enjoying and looking forward to this series! I'm having a blast with it and have plots going forward for a bunch more fun to come. If Salty will let me I'll keep her busy for quite a while with this. I really want to keep her as the sole artist for this series! Oh, it's not because of Ivan. Well, not directly. It's more that this is quite a bit of culture shock for someone who, as you have said, comes from a completely normal family. I'm sure Dee will be just fine, but this is quite a big shift in her perception of the world. But I'm sure that this will be tempered by finding out how nice both Ivan and Liane really are, and by the fact that I know they'll both be very happy to welcome her into the family. I have no doubt that this will be helped by seeing how diverse the Rabbitfangs' clan is, both in blood relatives and those who have married in, and that there's plenty of room for her as well!

Uh huh, for Dee it must be like being picked up and dropped into a fantasy world she never knew existed but turned out to be real. Heck, who knows but what she (or he before all this began) might have daydreamed about? Maybe all this will be like a dream come true. You know that Dee will come to love all the extended Rabbitfangs family, especially since she'll be made to feel a part of it from the first minute she meets them. Just as she found herself drawn to Kat and knew right away that they were destined to be more than just friends.
I think Salty is having fun with this series too. She's told me before that she finds them restful to do. Dee's such a lucky girl. Or guy, sometimes. It would be amazing to find out that things like werewolves and vampire rabbits were real. Provided they were as friendly as you and Ivan!

Agreed! Dee's world has just expanded exponentially. From being a normal teenage boy whose big thrill was trying to pick up girls in the mall to a shape changing boy/girl-friend to a werewolf. And soon to find that that new friend is also a vampire. Who could ask for a more eventful and crazy life? I know she's gonna love it!

Awww, I love this so much! Not only is it a gorgeous and adorable picture, I love the fact that Ivan is so sweet and accepting of his daughter's girlfriend (or boyfriend depending I guess) right off the bat. Everyone seems to go for the grumpy over-protective father in these scenarios, so it's a really refreshing change. Dee's giving him a pat on the cheek is so cute and I love how blissfully happy he and Kat both look. It's a sweet, gorgeous, adorable and wonderful scene and saltypaw does such amazing work!

Ha ha....Ivan is just a big sweetie-pie. He worked out all his problems and aggressions back when he was a spy during the Cold War. Now he just takes life as it comes. Definitely a 'don't worry, be happy' kind of guy.

Well, I mean, you can't really blame her. He's so fluffy and he looks so warm and cuddly! I'd probably be pretty nervous about petting a werewolf, too, and that's without knowing he was my girlfriend's father, but I can see Dee getting over her anxiety pretty quickly, too, once she gets to know him.

In the story for Girl Trouble I gave three hints to Dee that Kat's father was a werewolf, or at least some kind of canine, before Kat made it plain.
When Dee asks Kat about her being able to drive she says:
Kat: Yeah, I know how and have my learners permit. Dad always sleeps in the living room, so he'll wake up as I'm going through. He'll want to come. He loves to ride in cars!
Ivan sleeps next to the fireplace, like a lot of dogs do. And loves riding in cars, like most canines.

If I remember right you turned Liane into a feral wolf once...or at least part way and was teaching her how to howl properly. Do you remember that picture? I could find it but it would take a while. I just tried search and it's worthless. I'd have to look through my gallery.
