Oh, Captain Weathers. From what I know of him, I do have some respect for him, but I can't help but think he's seriously underestimating Diana here, and maybe letting his eager to capture her get in the way of his good planning. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I would probably assume that someone who has been attacked once and who is not in her native land would be even more cautious than just any regular traveler. Were I in her position, I'd probably be seeing danger in every shadow at this particular point in time.
That said, you do have a knack for coming up with some surprisingly unique twists to your story, so I'm eagerly looking forward to seeing what might happen next. And how right, or wrong, I might be.

Captain Weathers is a complex character, and one I do hope folks don't judge too harshly, as whatever he may do, we all have reasons. Sometimes we don't know what they are, but still, he is hopefully not coming across as cut and dry.
He might indeed, as Diana is rather resourceful. Either way, he must find her, he has no choice on that.
Thank you so much! It's always good to hear that.

I hope not, too. And I hope I haven't been guilty of it, myself. I think he's a really interesting person and someone who has a definite sense of honor and duty to his people. I respect him, even if he is on the opposite side from Diana and her friends. At least right now. I do think that, for the present at least, he's letting his anger drive him, but I think even that can be understandable. He was just shot, after all. But I don't think that makes him a bad person. Just another fallible mortal, like the rest of us.
And if I'm underestimating him, well, that would make for an interesting turn to the story, too.

With Captain Weathers a lot of his reasons you don't find out until much later, and then afterwards you see why he does what he does because my characters on either side of the fence always have a reason for what they do, even if you don't know what they are. Sometimes that's just how things go, but it's realistic. Nevertheless, they will do what they feel they must. ;)
And that's a big part of what makes your characters so compelling, I think. Like them or not, agree with them or not, you can see where they're coming from and what's driving them. Some of them have made some pretty compelling arguments, too, even when you, as the reader, know they're ultimately in the wrong. The only one I think I've ever felt was completely irredeemable was Sean, and I might just have been a tiny bit biased owing to my strong emotional connection with Ciara. In the case of Weathers, I find myself siding against him in his search for Diana but still not wanting to see him actually get hurt because I know he's not an evil man, just on the opposite side.
I think that's critically important for the story to work, because bad guys are never that way because they want to be. Even people who do illegal things aren't thinking of themselves as the bad guy in their own story, and we are all the heroes of our own story. That being said, protagonist and antagonist don't mean good and bad, they just mean for and against, they're opposites. It's why I always keep in mind what one wants, the other doesn't, or they can't both have it, so one has to lose.
In fairness we never did learn Sean's backstory or why he did what he did, but perhaps you can mine that in a later project should you be so inclined. Is he trying to avenge a lost legacy? Maybe.... I never had a reason in mind, but for the purposes of my project he didn't need one.
As far as Captain Weathers, he's doing what he thinks he has to for his people, but we are all fallible and circumstances sometimes drive us to desperate measures.
