I think it is less intelligence and more personality. It is clear yinglettes... can't think of a better way to say this but they feel things more strongly. Perhaps there is a little brain shrinkage due to the new cranial structure but I doubt he'll go full blown idiot. Plus from what we've seen of the matriarch and some of the male council they are of human level of intelligence at their best. Just needs to ease into these new personality quirks.
Degradation and alteration of mental faculties is literally my phobia...
So of course it's, like, a big fetish in TF fics all the damn time. Why are people's fetishes more terrifying than the fucking Hostel movies?
Who saw "I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream" and thought "that's really hot"?
"Why is all the porn that's theoretically in my wheel house also mind rendingly terrifying?", is my primary question.

People are weird, news at 11.
Intelligence is so underrated these days. I would guess that, in the situations where you'd suddenly find yourself another species (let along gender), some kind of mental/brain related change would be inevitable. Rendering you dumb as a box of frogs is far from an inevitability though. As was postulated elsewhere by
Jyoo_C_Froot, Kass would be at least Vizlet's intellectual superior, but lacking the mental training and discipline that Vizlet, as a natural born Yinglet, has would leave her at a significant (albeit possible to overcome and therefore temporary) disadvantage.
Overcoming it would be doable, though she'd likely need Vizlet's help on learning Yinglet-suitable mental discipline techniques.

Same, the catdog episode where dog gets smarter as cat gets dumber still haunts my dreams to this day. The scene where he tries to watch a tape to get smarter is probably the first thing that really set off my fear.
It is actually kind of weird, there are times where I love the animal brain taking over or personality death, but just a tick too far and it becomes a nightmare that will stay with me for days if not weeks.

I very much know how you feel, yet for some crazy reason I'm still totally into this fetish. Alzheimer's and related conditions are just about the last thing I would ever want to experience. But when it comes to fiction/TF, there is a lot of appeal in watching a character deal with new instincts, or "programming," or having an increasing mental block on their intelligence. For me, it goes too far when the character is rendered fully dumb, or blatant character death. I prefer situations where the knowledge isn't erased from their mind, but like with Kass here, a barrier or fog is put up to make it hard to access, but not impossible.
And yeah, from the character's perspective, it's terrifying. But that internal conflict, coupled with the danger it poses to the character and their situation, presents a fascinating story. A struggle to hold onto what one was while grappling with what one is becoming, for better or worse. I don't want to call it schadenfreude, but maybe that does play into it. I like Kass, though. I don't want to see bad things happen to her. But scenes like in this page where she's plumbing the depths of the yinglet psyche and getting freaked out are super fascinating.

My rule for mental alterations is twofold.
One, avoid it as a general rule. When a character starts losing control of their actions they lose agency, which is what makes them a character in the story. A character who loses all agency ceases to matter to the plot until they die or regain their agency. That's why everyone bitches about the damsel in distress trope, it's not just that it's tired it's that the character functionally becomes an important background object. The princess can be interchanged with a particularly valuable lamp.
Two, any mental alterations, even if they don't destroy agency, should functionally be treated as rape. If one character alters another;s mind and/or body to the degree that it may cause mental instability or severely altered appearance, then it's identity rape. No character should ever be entirely okay with any kind unwanted transformation, no matter how minor. It's altering who you are at a very basic level, it's always traumatic though almost never dramatic.

Well...he's dealing with hyperactivity, much more intense emotions, and a higher difficulty with concentration.
All three of those things are common symptoms of ADHD.
Seems like he's a pretty significant case of the disorder, now. Which is pretty shitty. I've lived with it my whole life and it isn't easy to deal with.

It's 15 minutes before midnight and I don't have anything better to do than refreshing my submission page over and over again hoping something good pops up and than a new page of this comic appears... this is literally the most exciting event that happened today... :D
As allways good work ;3

still ammusing, it's really a special thing you're doing. so many artists do little things and indulge fetishes with TF play. omma grow realleh big, and fat, and blob around! or...oh, noes! I'm turning into a girl fox, and I'm sooooooo horny! *gets humped* but you're looking deeper, defelopping a culture, and having to deal with it mapping out the rabbit hole's turns and twists, and intersections. it's so much more engaging, and funny. I entreat you to keep up the hard work, and hope there's many chapters to come!
*hug*

This - I agree with this completely. While I also enjoy single images or short comics about TF, I've always wanted to indulge in a long, drawn-out process of TF, including the after-effects which is probably why I love this story so much (and am always super excited to see it in my submissions :D)
If I had enough money, I would commission someone to do a long running series of one of my own characters (or myself), but alas, I only have so much money and too many things I wanna TF into.

Clearly Elim is producing some sort of pheromone that these yinglets find soothing, why else would he have gotten so many hugs from yinglets? His ability to treat non humans with the same level of dignity and respect as humans? I think not!
By the way, what is a group of yinglets called? A parade, a gaggle, a schtick? I need to know man!

How very interesting.... So Kass is plainly aware of her mental lapses and erratic behavior. lol alright allow me to try to crack this with my limited understanding of neurosciences! The transformation from the unknown object (Which will hence forth be called the Artifact) has to be absolute, including brain chemistry, construction, everything down to a quantum-mechanical level resulting in deviated neuron firing. The personality and consciousness is in tact and shaped by the memories, but it's imprinted over a NORMAL Yinglet brain; which makes sense as Kass was an average human. Given the hyper-active nature of a Yinglet, it would be a safe assumption to guess that the communication between the Prefrontal Cortex and Parietal Cortex is different than in a human. In humans, the Parietal Cortex has to be distracted in order to allow the Prefrontal Cortex to focus on study and intelligent observation rather than baser survival base focus. As Yinglets are more animal in nature, it's plausible that the Parietal Cortex is more active and more difficult to distract; and if it remains functional it would only undermine the focus of the Prefrontal. So with that hypothesis, in a situation where Kass is in an area with many things happening she'd be more likely to such slips due to instincts keeping her on alert even if subconsciously. In Vizlet's case, as she doesn't have a human consciousness to observe these jumpy reactions, her intellect and ability to focus wouldn't be the result of outside interference from a similar artifact, but from self conditioning to control her baser focus. WHICH MEANS, all Yinglet have the ability to be as smart as Vizlet with proper amount of training, and that Kass's mental state shouldn't be degrading as a result of exposure to the artifact but simply hasn't disciplined itself to focus properly.
Given this, I think in the case of the Yinglet, Phrenology would actually be a perfectly legitimate science to determine predisposition towards rational or erratic behavior! o-o; boy this artifact is a real humdinger as far as transformations go. But the fact Kass is consciously aware of these outbursts I think is a good sign for out heroine's mental state. However I'm still left to ponder what this proposed "other" Yinglet's motives were and how much of Kass's reactions are situational and are beyond her control with her new Yinglet Brain. I'm left with many questions and not enough to go on beyond speculation. Come on team, you guys need to start searching for clues so I can start narrowing down my theories!! XD
NOW, my ranting and rambling aside, Sal as always this is a very entertaining and engaging story you've crafted and it's only getting better as it goes on! And your work with expressions and poses only seems to grow better! And this was a beautiful comic to begin with!! I eagerly look forward to see what happens next! You did a great job!!

lol yep I'm really earning that GED tonight!! And I eagerly look forward to seeing what pops up and if the gang pursues this mystery or focuses more on the Enclave and the goings on there! lol though something tells me the Trademaster will be shaking things up with his announcement! >.> But with that alleged Yinglet who potentially gave Lopin the artifact still at large I do grow concerned for his safety the more I think about it.
You can weld with a mace - all you need is an anvil https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXF60MOWUeY
Was it your intention to have Yinglets commonly deal with ADHD? because all three of the major changes to how his head seems to function (hyperactivity, more intense emotional response, more difficulty concentrating) are all major symptoms of the disorder.
Ones I know pretty well, from experience. :P
I'm not offended, mind you. I actually kinda like the idea of someone suddenly having to get used to dealing with that.

Glad you're enjoying it! Most nations still have monarchies or other similar ruling councils, but Val Salia is more of an oligarchy, with House Ivenmoth taking on basic care of the city's infrastructure and upholding its laws. We'll get more details on all that a bit later in the story.
I do have a specific set of things that must happen before it ends, but the stuff in between can be sped or up drawn out to adjust the overall length so that it doesn't feel rushed, but also not keep going far past the point it should have ended.
Probably gonna take at least 500+ to get this whole story told!

Absolutely! I'm mean this 100%. I mean... not only is he the model of a friend that will stick it out with you to the end (a rarity and all too valuable), but he keeps the story grounded as well. After all, if EVERYTHING in a story is unusual, then NOTHING is. Having Elim there gives a focus; a contrast. It serves as a reminder to Kass about her previous life. Even more symbolically, he will always stick around (at least, I hope so), meaning that no matter what happens, Kass will always carry a part of her old life with her.
I mean it when I say that Elim is one of the things that makes this comic WORK. He deserves celebration as a character without fanfare, just doing the right thing. The world of literature and the world in general need more of him. =)

Now that Kass finally wants to discuss his yinglet tendencies plaguing his mind, we get to talk about it again since like… page 17. I feel like Kass's opinions on the matter actually give more depth of the situation to analyze. He says he feels things more, which I think means his feelings are more… exaggerated? Like, he felt that Lopin's scared reaction was funny, but he found it funnier than what he usually would have thought. So, it's not so much that what he thinks is being affect, but how much he feels that way. I think; I'm still skeptical. Keep in mind, the first signs of this yinglet mindset was when Kass laughed at a fart noise. I seriously doubt he would have found that funny in the first place.
With my general conclusion, there is not much to worry about really. Kass's personality isn't changing that much I assume. It's more like he is more expressive with his feelings. I think that could not just be attributed to the yinglet transformation but the female one as well. Women stereotyp– generally share their feelings more rather than hide them.
Then again, Kass's situation is more dire than what I don't give credit for. I mean, Kass has to deal with this. He's got to overcome. He must!
