I'm actually kind of surprised that the transfer is that easy. Then again, I suppose the fact that it is goes some way toward justifying why the Talwyn are so careful about who gets to wield that kind of power and who is chosen as the successor for each master. If it was something that was difficult to get hold of, they might not have to be quite so careful or vet their students so carefully.
I do like how happy Lauren looks right after the transfer, though, and she looks really good in her Master's uniform, too! She looks more like herself in those clothes.

They would be careful regardless of how complex the process was, but it is a significant responsibility each master takes seriously. Now they have had corrupted masters and so on but the power cannot be taken by force, it must be given willingly. Talwyn masters are trained they are to sacrifice themselves rather than give it up to someone who would use it to harm others. As always it's not a perfect system, but it works fairly well since in order to even be eligible you've got to go through the Academy and then the Tower training program and be hand picked by a master to succeed them. It's not something you can campaign for though some have tried. If a master does not choose you and it is not agreed upon by a few others in the council it doesn't happen.
Lauren of course hoped she would be chosen but I think she's mostly happy because Lucas is proud of her. :) It was fun planning this comic both to expand on backstory and to give Lauren a chance to wear the student uniform. ;) I suppose these days her masters clothes are like a second skin.

This reminds me of the healing art of reiki. In order for Lauren to use the Talwyn Master power of water, the teacher had to transfer the energy to her. Reiki is almost like that in real life. Nobody can just pick up a book, read it, and do the practice! The said person has to be trained by a reiki teacher and then the teacher has to transfer their healing energy to the student; sort of like what is happening here. I like how you did this part of the comic!
Well, at this point in the mythology, which may be tweaked, Lauren was taking on her mentor's job. The way it worked here was that a master had to transfer their power to another to get another one (since at the time there was only one of each) but that and many other things may change.... It's a WIP right now. Still. :) This was how it was meant to work at the time.
