Name: Rakell Scott

Biographical Data
As a young raccoon, Rakell had always shown an interest in how things worked. She was always taking apart various electronics much to her parents chagrin. As she got older she began to build and repair her own things preferring to know how to do it herself rather than take it to someone else.
A mechanic and engineer before the war, Rakell worked in the private sector until the collapse. While at first she attempted to remain in her home town in time she began to travel, trading her experience for food and lodging.
She operated a trading post at the Fountainhead settlement on the west coast until it was destroyed by the Initiative.
She currently travels with Sierra headed east.
Personal Statement
"My name is Rakell Scott. Anything you've got, I can fix it. People bring me post war salvage all the time from wherever they can find. I take a look at it and most of the time I can get it running again. Of course, most of what I do these days is trading junk that still works but every now and then I can fix something that's broken. The talent earned me a place at The Fountainhead, until the place got attacked.
I ended up traveling with Sierra and her friend Kieran, who happened to be staying with me at the time. I rented them a room seeing as they'd had nowhere else to be. Little did I know how much that would change everything from that point forward.
For the first time in a long time I find myself wandering the world with no idea where I'm going. Though my life has become a bit more interesting since Sierra walked into it, at the same time I feel like what I do actually matters again. I don't know where she's leading me, but I just hope we don't get killed by it. Maybe if we're lucky I might even see some of the advanced tech they still say is out there. I hear they can even make machines that look like us. That'd be a hell of a thing."

Thanks! I've been waiting to post this one for a while. I know at first I hadn't really known Rakell would be a mechanic/engineer, but as I started to develop the basic arc of the story I realized I needed someone with the skills to repair something fairly complex, so Rakell made the most sense given when they meet her she's repaired a 50 cal sniper rifle so the seed was there. This also made it so I didn't have to create a new character, so win win. :) Given what they'll face in the future stories it really seemed to make sense to have her be an engineer.
Somehow, working as a mechanic seems to just suit a raccoon character. They really are clever little things! I don't seem to remember having seen this lady before, though I'm probably just blanking on her at the moment. But she's a really pretty girl, and she sounds like quite a handy person to know, too. I'd imagine that someone who knows how to fix things might just be one of the most valuable allies you could have in a post-apocalyptic world like that. Second only to a doctor, perhaps.
The art is really beautifully done, and the artist has done a great job of capturing the post-war devastation and rendering a world that looks both dangerous and incredibly inviting to explorers all in one. Great stuff!

It may be a bit of a trope, which I generally avoid, but in this case it just worked out that way. When I adopted Rakell from
Foxene I liked the design, and assigned her to Sierra's world. Once that happened she joined the group at the trading post, which is seen in the comic. She mentioned repairing a rifle, and as I was working out the story I needed a engineer who can fix anything, maybe not as it's supposed to be fixed but she'll get it working, sort of. So that became Rakell since I hadn't explored her backstory much and she'd already been working at a trading post / repairing things, so it made sense. Plus I kind of have developed this chemistry between her and Sierra where she complains a lot about what Sierra wants her to do but she never leaves, LOL. You'd probably be right, especially for the groups that still have working technology. After the power grid goes it's all back to mechanical things but there will be batteries for a while and a few other ways to generate power (aka solar) so a mechanic can be a useful trade.
I love the way he rendered her outfit too. :) I just love how their clothes looks functional but yet 'distressed'. :) You can't find a new outfit every week in this world!

Well, as TV Tropes puts it, "tropes aren't bad". While I strive to avoid using cliches myself, sometimes it can be as much fun to try to put a new spin on an old idea, or to try to make it your own. I think she sounds like a really interesting character, and I have no doubt at all that you'll find all kinds of ways to make her unique as her story progresses. Her relationship with Sierra sounds interesting, too, and definitely a good source of either drama or comedy, depending on what is needed. Or just how they work best together.
I suppose like many things it's what you do with them that makes them good or bad. While a raccoon mechanic may be a furry trope perhaps, as I'd said it wasn't planned that way. It just fit the role I needed and gave her some more things to do narratively speaking, so it was a win win and just kind of ended up being that way.
In any case, I've kind of determined the more I go on that Rakell is probably one of the more sarcastic of the group, engineers and all. Sierra tends to put a lot of demands on Rakell, but she always pulls it off, even when she may complain like she can't.
