One pleasant day as the S. S. Athena was steaming towards the Spontoon Islands, Mr. T. J. Foxx decided to pass the time before his next watch by sketching and doodling while enjoying the cool breezes from off the No. 3 Cargo Hold hatch. He soon found himself the center of attention of a small group of Female crew members who took delight in teasing him, but also complimenting him on his drawing style. Millie even got the little Vulpine to blush when she asked him if she pose for him in the nude, "Like any good Artist's model should." She was only joking of course, but for awhile there, "Foxy" couldn't help but let his imagination run away from him.
This is kinda "Zen." It's an art lesson within an art lesson. I was encouraged by a good fiend to take a new look at the original image, and I thought, "Maybe I should try coloring it." I worked on this image only Eight hours off and on, and I kind of like the results. Just the "Flat" colors alone with just a touch of shading gives the image a kind of "Sunday Comic" effect, similar to newspaper, four color, off set printing. I also felt the Artists, Friends and Fans here on FA might like to see what my Photoshop Color images look like before I "Junk it up" with shading and over-working the darn thing.

T.J. should agree to a nude sketch... maybe it would lead to a great friendship. (But don't let the sketch travel too far from your hands)
A wonderful pic, steamfox. There's a simple but thoughtful attention to detail that I find appealing - the clothing, the expressions - they match the story. I can see myself as a nearby crewmate watching this scene happen. Well Done!

You have such a good sense of laying-out the points-of-interest in your black & white art, that I'm not surprised that adding your flat colors can work so well, too. The color can link together areas and enhance the relationships. Like the blue in the overalls and blue jeans that affirm where everyone is sitting and how their bodies are turned. But that was in the line drawing; the color just emphasizes it.
A lot of the fans want to see more, (And more...) of Lorraine Le Babbit, who is most likely the closest thing to a "French Model" of the bunch. Now I gotta think up some sort of scenario where the Lady Lapinamorph gets to show more of her pelt. I also need to explain how the "CURBs" work. Lorraine's feets just look way too big.
Awww... I was trying to indicate all the Ladies except for Millie were laughing at the little Vulpimorph's reaction to the question. The thing I was trying was having Millie's and Foxy's attention closely focused on one another, while the other gals' attention is focused on Foxy or his drawing pad. This ain't exactly the Saturday Evening Post, ya know?
You might have something there. I have a penciled sketch on hand that has a very nude Millie in the foreground, looking at Mr. Foxx who's just walked in to the entryway hatch of her cabin. I might just change the caption from "Can I help you?" to "Okay, I'm ready. Did you bring your sketchpad?"
Personal opinion?
Leave it just like it is.
Your work has always lent itself to a "coloring book" approch
and too much "futzing around" with it will dampen any magic it has.
To me, right now, it has the feel of a colored sketch, which I love,so if
you do shade it please keep simple and just add enough to bring out
the lvl's of the characters. Otherwise, have fun. :D

I recently learned the hard way about what I do and what they see when I reduce the image to like 1,000 X 700 ppi for FA. I worked on an image of a pretty Lady Lioness and went all out with the details, like I would with a color pencil sketch, even going so far as to add details in the pupils of her eyes, and highlights in her hair, then I noticed that these fine details disappear in a way when I reduce the image down for the website. (Although I must admit the "Gleam" in her eyes adds so much to her "Personality.") The flat colors assure me that I'm getting the point across, and I shouldn't waste my efforts on details no one will really see. Besides, Photoshop doesn't quite work like color pencils. I found myself absent mindedly reaching for my colorless blenders and sharpener so I could create fur highlights and details, but discovered I was doing everything in an over complicated way for unsatisfying results.
