This was a story I did just for fun some days ago since I do enjoy a gentle macro on occasion and I felt in the mood to write about such a thing. So this story does not contain my usual emphasis on paws, so keep that in mind. I also sort of set up some characters within this story who could possibly be used in the future although probably not. Since I don't usually write this type of story or narrative I'll see how it turns out. Go ahead and (hopefully) enjoy the story and leave a comment if you enjoyed or have any comments, suggestions, or errors you noticed.

In the costal city of Pantai, a lone Vaporeon pokemorph named Oceana sat in her apartment reading a letter from her landlord. She brushed aside her long dark blue hair from her face, its beautiful color contrasting her light blue skin and highlighting her ocean blue eyes. She absentmindedly straightened the light green beach dress she had gotten from her sister as she scanned the letter. She let out a heavy sigh as she tossed the letter aside and got up from her couch. She walked to her patio, the silent sinking of her paws into her plush carpet being replaced by the creak of wood, and looked out towards the ocean. “Hmmm. This is a problem.” She groaned leaning against the smooth railing.
Oceana had been living in her apartment for years now, and she loved it. She loved the building, she loved her neighbors, and she loved her view of the beach. She always loved the beach, ever since she first heard the word as a child. She loved it so much that she chose to become a lifeguard. She didn’t even go to college, after high school she took some classes and became an expert lifeguard within a week. She was such an outstanding lifeguard that within a year she was hired to work at the most prestigious and beautiful beach on the planet. It might seem a little dramatic, but she was overjoyed when she got the job.
For most pokemorphs, the area around the beach would be way too expensive to live in. Thankfully Oceana’s job gave her a discount on housing which was ultimately what allowed her to live comfortably in such a lavish apartment. As she thought about the contents of the letter she just read she looked across the beach, it’s amazing beauty still on her mind during her day off. The beach was covered with all sorts of pokemorphs, some of whom were famous and being swarmed by paparazzi, except a small patch that seemed to be relatively empty. Oceana sighed, “Micros… or ‘humans’ as they call themselves.” she said with some resentment.
This was the only part of any beach that Oceana didn’t absolutely love; she even hated it at times. “Humans.” She growled. “Why do they need their own section of the beach? Because they’re so small us ‘macros’ could crush anyone of them underpaw if we’re not careful? They should have to accommodate us, not the other way around! We’re not squatting on their planet!” Oceana moved away from the railing and took a seat on her deck chair; her thoughts drifting to the first time her species discovered humans. Her species wasn’t the most technologically advanced species, so when mysterious distorted radio noises started to periodically frazzle radios across the planet, there was quite the scare. The whole planet was in a panic and the united governments deployed a special team to investigate the signals.
After a yearlong period of investigation, the team finally managed to pinpoint the source of the signal in the middle of nowhere. They rushed in to investigate and spent days trying to find any sort of secret stronghold. After a week of searching one of the operatives, a female Flygon who was later made lead diplomat for human-pokemorph relation, was so exhausted that she just laid down on the ground for a nap. If she had laid down just a smidge more to the right, then humans would have never been discovered.
To say she was surprised to find what looked like a tiny base full of ants was an understatement. She was even more surprised when surprisingly loud alarms started sounding from every building in the little base. Apparently the sight of a gigantic being that had nearly killed them all by accidently laying on them really scared those humans. They unloaded everything they had in the base on the monster. The Flygon recalled the sensation of the humans’ attack feeling like being stung by a dozen tiny bees. After the humans ran out of everything they could use to attack, the Flygon easily dug her hands into the ground and uprooted the entire base.
Being as gentle as she could she lifted herself to her feet and made her way back to her base camp, whispering gently to the humans in an attempt to keep them calm. She didn’t realize until she tried to contact the main base that these humans were the “big scary aliens” the whole planet was terrified of when the strange radio noises first started. When the Flygon got back and reported to her superior officer her findings and showed him the humans, the officer thought she was joking and had cracked because the heat and stress. When he tried to contact the headquarters of the united governments, the radio crackled with such violent unpleasant noises that the officer immediately realized that the Flygon had been telling the truth.
The officer ordered the Flygon to crush the humans immediately, an order that would later result in his demotion and later expulsion from the military. But the gentle nature of the Flygon didn’t mix well with the order, and she refused. Instead she gently spoke with the humans and convinced them to power down their devices. After the humans had shut down their devices, she contacted the united governments in her superiors place and was later escorted to a meeting between all the world’s leaders.
During the meeting the Flygon was the spokeswoman for the humans since none of the humans were willing to talk to anyone but her. It was soon discovered that the humans present on the planet were a special group from their species on a mission to find an inhabitable planet. It had been years since their planet’s natural resources had run out and its atmosphere was nearly done deteriorating. These humans had spent two years travelling through space, searching for a good planet to settle on, before finding this one. Their communications with the base on their home planet “Earth” was the cause for the strange radio noises. Their advanced technology did not work properly with the technology on this planet, and when attempts were later made to adapt human technology to the pokemorphs’ needs it was discovered that none of it worked well with the natural resources present.
After the issue regarding the strange radio noises was solved, and after the Flygon finally convinced the humans to contact their superiors so communication between the species could be established, the first steps towards rescuing humans from extinction were taken. It took several weeks before the combined insistence of both the pokemorphs’ government officials and their fellow humans to convince the leaders of the humans to send more humans to the planet. Slowly but surely, all humans remaining on planet Earth were evacuated from the planet and integrated into the pokemorphs’ society.
In order to avoid confrontation between the common people of both species the humans, who were referred to as “micros” by pokemorphs who didn’t like the humans, were moved into small independent cities looked after by the pokemorph government and caring individuals who were handpicked by the Flygon who first made contact with humans. Eventually, a large number of humans and human supporters insisted that humans should be allowed to mix with pokemorphs. Slowly, some of the braver humans began to move into previously occupied by only pokemorphs. There were so many problems during the initial stages of the integration; some so serious humans considered resuming their search for a new planet. These incidents included the accidental destruction on human houses by clueless pokemorphs, or “macros” as humans called them, and intentional violence against humans. But all the problems have been lost to history, with the intertwining of “micro” and “macro” societies being nearly flawless to this day with only certain things, like the separation of beaches for safety, still being around.
All of this information has been thoroughly drilled into the minds and knowledge of every inhabitant of the planet. In the present day, humans and pokemorphs live together in peace and harmony. Some humans and pokemorphs have begun businesses and others have even started families, no matter how strange others have deemed it. Sometimes pokemorphs like Oceana felt they were being too kind to humans and were being used. The humans were after all using some of the resources that their species considered extremely valuable. But these individuals never really do anything with their complaints and aren’t hostile towards humans.
When Oceana finally snapped out of her thoughts she looked around to see that the sun was setting. She performed a comedic double take and jumped off the chair. “It was noon when I started thinking about those humans! How could I have been thinking so long that I didn’t even notice the sun start setting?” She sighed. Oceana quickly returned to her living room and picked up the letter she had previously tossed aside. “I don’t even really remember what this says, I just remember that it’s bad.” She mumbled as she walked to her kitchen to prepare dinner. Oceana decided to read through the letter again to refresh her memory. “Oh. This is worse than I remember.” She said as her ear-like fins drooped sadly.
The letter from her landlord was a warning that, starting from the next rent payment period, her rent would be increasing by a large amount. The increase was so substantial that even Oceana’s considerable discount wouldn’t be enough for her to live comfortably anymore. “This is bad! I really need to keep this apartment! Everywhere else in the city is taken and if I can’t stay in the city then I’ll lose my job! I CAN’T LOSE THAT JOB, I LOVE IT TOO MUCH!” Oceana screamed crazily, prompting some loud thumping from each of her neighbors in response. “Sorry about that!” She shouted back with a deep blush on her face.
Oceana thought long and hard about how she could stop herself from losing her apartment without losing her fairly lavish lifestyle. “I can’t cut down on anything really, I mean it’s not like I eat anything very expensive.” She said as she snacked on a well-seasoned Platinum Arowana. “None of my bills are very high either so I don’t need to cut down on the gas and electric or water bill.” She said to herself as the sink ran and stove continued to heat non-existent pans. Oceana kept trying to think of a way to save money for an hour before it hit her. “I should get a roommate! We can split the rent!” She thought excitedly. “I mean I don’t like strangers, so that’s why I have 7 sisters to live with!” She said gleefully as she reached for the phone. As she dialed the number for the first sister she would call, Oceana quietly turned off the sink faucet and stove burners she had been so neglectfully wasting.
She quietly set herself down on her couch and placed the phone on her ear, waiting for her sister to answer. “Hey Silvia, it’s your sister Oceana. How’ve you been?” She began when she heard the voice of her sister. On the other side of the line a Leafeon pokemorph held her phone up against her ear using her shoulder as she watered her plants. “Oceana? It’s been a long time since I’ve heard your voice.” Silvia piped happily. “I’ve been great! It’s so much fun owning my own flower shop and learning what flowers people like and why they’re getting flowers. Did you know that flowers are a common gift for humans to show others their affection? It’s so cute! But forget about that, how have you been? Still a lifeguard at that fancy beach?” Silvia asked setting down her watering can.
“Oh, I was doing really good, but then I got a stupid letter from my landlord telling me that my rent has been increased by like a lot. I can’t live here comfortably anymore with that increase so I need a roommate to split the rent. You up for it?” Oceana asked hopefully. There was a pause on the other side of the line before Silvia spoke. “Wow, couldn’t even carry a conversation before asking? Whatever, I have to decline anyways. And before you ask why, I can’t just abandon my new store and move to another city so good luck finding a roommate!” She said cheerfully. Oceana sighed in disappointment. “Alright, well that’s alright. You are living your dream job so I can’t take that away. Thanks anyways.”
Before Oceana could hang up, Silvia spoke up quickly. “Oh before you go, I need to ask you something! Did you get my present?” Silvia asked in a childish tone. “What present? You mean this beautiful green beach dress?” Oceana said teasingly. “I love it! It’s just missing one thing… it’s not blue! But other than that it’s flawless.” Silvia squealed happily on the other line. “I’m so happy you love it! I just had to send you and everyone else a gift once I opened my shop. And you can handle the dress not being blue, I know it’s your favorite color, but you’re too blue already. You look like somebody spray painted a blue berry an even dark blue three times.” Oceana scoffed defensively. “Hah! I know I’m very blue naturally and that I wear a lot of blue clothes but that doesn’t mean you can call me that. Have a good day.” She said hanging up quickly. “Oh the nerve.”
Oceana spent the next couple of hours calling each of her six other siblings and trying to convince them to be her roommates. All of them had a good reason for not being able to be Oceana’s roommate, but it frustrated her just the same. Nariko, Oceana’s athletic Jolteon sister, said that she didn’t want to be in a place filled with paparazzi. She was a minor famous athlete, who was very weary of the paparazzi, whom she thought would ruin her slowly blossoming career with hurtful gossip. After her came Adeen, she was the passionate Flareon sister who loved the hot sun. Surely the blazing sun of the beach would be perfect for her! But she hated the beach because she was afraid of water even though she said she only thought it was gross. So after her Oceana tried the twins of the family. Celina was an outgoing Umbreon who enjoyed going to late nightclubs with her friends and sleeping all day. Dawn was a shy Espeon who preferred the company of books and electronics to pokemorphs or humans. Since the two of them were inseparable and Oceana had a small apartment they weren’t an answer to her problem. After those two Oceana called her overly cuddly and loving Sylveon sister, Diana. She couldn’t join Oceana because the recent rise of a strange human disease called “chicken pocks” in pokemorphs had made her job as a multi-species pediatric very busy and she couldn’t leave her city. Finally Oceana called the science loving Glaceon named Crystal who was currently on a year long trip to the artic north in an attempt to compare their planets north pole to Earth’s. Obviously, Crystal’s trip was too important to drop out of, no matter how much Oceana begged her sister.
After being hung up on by Crystal with a sharp click, Oceana put down the phone sadly. It would have been bad to be denied by one of her sisters, but to not get one roommate from any of her seven sisters and spending hours trying to talk them all into staying with her with no results was heartbreaking. “Oh no! I don’t want to give up this place or my job! It’s my dream!” She moaned despairingly. “I’ll have to do the unthinkable! I’ll live with a stranger just so we can split the rent. I hope I can find someone, it’s my last hope!” With a final heavy sigh, Oceana went to her new computer and began to make an advertisement on the local housing websites. The next few days, she waited eagerly for replies until salvation came in the form of an email signaling an interested person would be swinging by tomorrow.
Following a nervous night’s sleep, Oceana woke up early to clean the apartment and make it as presentable as possible. “Ah. There’s so much riding on this interview! I have no idea how this works, should I even be calling this an interview? Do I decide if they can be my roommate or do they decide?” She asked herself while pacing between the couch and the patio. “What if it’s somebody gross? For all I know it could be a…a-a Muk pokemorph or something like a Garbodor! I can’t accept that! Who knows what kind of pokemorph it could possibly b-!” Oceana froze suddenly in her tracks when she heard a knock at the door. “Oh Arceus the… whatever it’s going to be is here!” She squeaked running to the door and whipping it open.
Standing in front of the door was a shapely Dewott pokemorph dressed simply in a two-piece bikini. “Hardly appropriate for an interview or whatever this is.” Oceana thought. “Hello!” She said perhaps too eagerly. “Are you here for the apartment interview… thing?” She asked awkwardly. The Dewott’s smooth feminine gave a cool reply of, “Oh no! I’m just here because I had to bring the guy you’re going to interview.” Oceana paused for a moment before responding. “Oh? Umm… why couldn’t he get here by himself?” She asked. “Because if Dewa here didn’t bring me then I would have been about two days late.” Said a voice seemingly coming from nowhere. Oceana looked around suspiciously after hearing the strange voice. “Ummm who said that?” She mumbled. The Dewott, apparently named Dewa, answered Oceana’s question. “He did.” Dewa said simply while pointing at her shoulder. Oceana squinted her eyes slightly until she could see a tiny… her eyes suddenly went wide and she gasped when she saw a human on the Dewott’s shoulder.
Thoughts and memories suddenly raced through Oceana’s head as she looked at the tiny human. Painful memories rushed back through her brain as she lived through them once again in her mind. She had just gotten the letter that told her she had been hired for her dream job and was running home to pack. Not wanting to waste anytime, she took the secret shortcut she had discovered through a part of her town that wasn’t being used for anything. As she sprinted carelessly through the area she froze dead in her tracks when she heard and felt a sudden crunch. She looked down at her right paw to see it resting on the destroyed remains of a tiny house and screamed. She had recently heard that the human race discovered some years ago had recently started moving into the pokemorph living residences, but she had no idea that humans were already moving into her town. She hurriedly lifted her paw to inspect it. To her horror she found the squished body of two small humans, one man and one woman, stuck to the toe and sole pads of her paws, dead. Once again she screamed in horror, this time tears flowing down her cheeks. After remembering that traumatic event, Oceana experienced the same feelings of guilt all over again. She was only able to snap back into reality when she heard a tiny voice asking, “Miss? Are you alright?”
Oceana regained her senses to find herself hiding behind the frame of her door, just barely within sight of the Dewott and the human. Her forehead was dripping with sweat and she was breathing heavily. She peaked around the frame of the door and stared at the human. He looked to be about her age, being a few years out of college, had dark blonde hair, and was wearing the clothes you would see on any normal human. She quickly got out from behind the door and composed herself. “S-sorry! I thought I saw a spider and I’m deathly afraid of them.” She lied. The Dewott looked at Oceana sourly and gently cupped her hand in front of the human. “Sure you did. Come on Drew, I’m sure we can find you someplace better to live.” She said turning away.
But the human would not have the giant Pokemorph make decisions for him. “Hold on Dewa! I decide who I can and cannot live with and I want to give her a chance.” He shouted. Surprisingly, Dewa stopped in her tracks and turned back to face Oceana who was watching curiously to see what she would do. With a heavy sigh, Dewa spoke to Oceana again. “Hold out your hand.” She ordered. Trembling slightly, Oceana held out both of her hands. Dewa quickly snatched Drew from her shoulder and set the human gently down into the Vaporeon’s trembling hands. “Okay, I’m trusting you with him. If anything happens you’ll have me to answer to! I’m just down at the beach and I have an almost maternal instinct when it comes to Drew. So try anything and I’ll be here in a flash!” Dewa said walking off as she flashed the “I’m keeping my eyes on you” sign.
As soon as she was out of sight, Oceana began to panic in her mind again. Ever since that horrible incident she always felt nervous around humans. She could never really get the image of those crushed human bodies that stuck to her paw out of her head. That image scarred her, and that’s why she was always hostile towards any human presence. She didn’t hate humans, in fact she used to love humans; she thought they were adorable. Ever since that incident though, she made herself hate humans so she couldn’t stand being around them. She did that to protect them, and to make sure she’d never kill another human. But here she stood, a human in her hands with a guardian that would attack her if anything bad happened to him.
Her ears perked up when the tiny human spoke directly to her for the first time. “Don’t worry about Dewa.” He began. “She’s a little protective of me but she’s not nearly as aggressive as she says she is. She’s really sweet when you get to know her.” He said smiling. Oceana took a deep breath, “A little protective?” She laughed. “She’s more protective of you then a mother is her child.” She finished not moving an inch. The human shrugged his shoulders; ”I like to think of her as a protective big sister. Anyways, shall we start our interview thing? My name is Andrew by the way, but you can call me Drew.”
“Oh, that’s a cute name.” Oceana mumbled meekly as she walked into her apartment. She kept trying to close her door without using her hands, entirely out of fear of dropping the human. After a whole minute of awkward silence she was finally able to kick the door closed with a soft thud. She crept slowly to her kitchen table, taking very small soft steps, her nerves overwhelming her and causing her hands to tremble even more violently. Drew easily took notice of Oceana’s rather violent trembling and tried to talk to her in a soothing voice. “Hey, aren’t I supposed to be the nervous one? Come on relax.” He urged. His encouragement seemed to take some affect as Oceana’s trembling seemed to lessen a bit and he was quickly yet gently deposited on the kitchen table.
Oceana sighed in relief as she set the human down on her kitchen table. “He should be safe there, now I just have to make it through this interview.” She thought. Straightening her still relatively new green beach dress, she took the seat at the opposite end of her table and looked over to where Drew should have been only to see him blocked by the decorative fruit bowl she had on the table. “Oh, sorry about that.” She giggled pushing the bowl out of the way. “You have a beautiful laugh.” Drew said as Oceana locked her eyes on him. “Thank you, that’s very nice.” Oceana responded casually. She was surprised she was staying so calm and casual around this human, maybe his words of encouragement really helped her.
“Alright let’s get started I suppose. My name is Oceana and I already know your name Drew. Any questions before we begin?” Oceana began professionally. Drew took a quick breath, “Oceana? That’s a lovely name, it sounds like the word ocean.” She rolled her eyes. “Yes it does, I’ve never had anyone point that out before.” She replied sarcastically. This prompted a nervous laugh from Drew. “Alright so why are you looking to live hear?” Oceana asked. “Uh, well I decided that I needed a change of scenery from my old location and I thought it would be an interesting experience to live with one of you pokemorphs. In case you’re wondering I didn’t live with Dewa before, she just stopped by a lot.” Drew answered.
The rest of the interview went well on both ends, Oceana managed to stay calm the entire review and Drew managed to answer all of her questions. The stuff Oceana asked was typical for this kind of stuff. Oceana was ecstatic when she heard that Drew could easily pay for his half of the rent and still keep his job without need of transportation from her. The very reason she ever considered having a roommate was solved and everything else about the interview was inconsequential. In fact, Oceana found the interview so entertaining she felt like she was having a natural conversation with a new friend. By the end of the interview Oceana was ready to take Drew into her apartment at that moment, except for one issue.
“Alright Drew, I just have one concern I need to address with you before I decide to let you stay here. Now this is a very personal thing so I need you to take this seriously.” Oceana said. Drew nodded in response, not wanting to say anything. “A long time ago, just before I moved to this apartment I got a letter telling me I had gotten my dream job here.” She began. So Oceana told Drew about the time she had accidently crushed those two unfortunate humans and their house. She also went into great detail about how the event made her fearful of being around humans and explained that it was the cause for her strange behavior when they first met. “So I’m just nervous that you could possibly end up like those two did.” She concluded. Drew stared at Oceana for a few moments as she stared back, a vulnerable look reflected in her eyes.
At length Drew spoke, “Oceana, I know we just met but I feel like I can really trust you. I’m certain that I’ll never end up like those two, and if you’re really concerned then we can consider the floor off limits for me. You’re going to have to trust me to avoid you accidently killing me as much as I trust that you’ll do the best you can not to accidently kill me.” Drew took a deep breath and stayed quiet for a moment. “Okay that sounded kind of… odd, but you get my point! I want to try and make this work! There are other humans and pokemorphs who are already doing something like this, I want to be one of those courageous people and I bet you do to. Now let’s shake hands and be roommates!” Drew concluded as he held out his hand. With slight hesitation, Oceana reached out her hand and gently grabbed Drew’s hands with two of her comparatively large fingers and shook it. “Alright, it’s a deal.” She answered with a sweet smile. “These humans… they’re as cute as I remembered!”
