Strange Plane.

I used to take long walks into Pasadena during my days there, and one bright spring day I heard a large, pistoned engined aircraft growling away over head. Now I have been affected with "Floaters" in my field of vision, so instead of seeing a WW II era bomber I briefly saw this image, and it appeared the aircraft's Starboard wing had been severely battle damaged. After I returned home I sketched out this image and let the pencil "Dance." So here's this strange sort of "Eagle-Dragon" designed looking aircraft, lumbering along, looking for a safe place to land.

..one of the few experiments with XSToL was the XJF268 (Codename Dragonfly), who's telescopic pneumatic landing gear was designed to take the shock of the landing, store and then translate it into the force needed to fling the aircraft back into the air proved extremely unpopular, both with the ground troops it was designed to ferry into the field, and the pilots who flew them. Frequent mechanical failures of the gear on landing caused many aircraft losses. Landing in rough terrain (the aircraft's design goal) was very problematic, as a landing 'foot' slip often had the main airfoil spar contact the ground with disastrous results. This rare picture shows a possible resulting 'field repair' as the starboard wing assembly is somewhat truncated.
The variant codenamed 'Waterstrider' had a somewhat higher survival rate.

Commiserations on the vision problems. I have something wrong with my eyes of which an eye doctor said "..is not Keratoconus, but would have that word in it's name, if we had a name for it."
,,yes, sorry. 'Instant History' is a bad habit of mine.
> It's very inspired and also intriguing.
Thank you. :D Back at you for your picture. :) I enjoyed the 'Flitterhopper' that you drew pictures of as well.
Would you mind if I attempted blueprints or a model of this?
I could build a model of it at least.
Well done in following your inspiration!
This is one of the doodles I really wish I could develop further. I had a comic trilogy I wanted to work on called "The electric mink" where the cyber world and reality cross frequently and violently. in the third volume, "Future Shock," forces from the cyber world of Tanderel break through into the "Now" in order to find out what happened to the amassed armored force that disappeared in "Culture Shock," the second volume. I had a dream that this is what remains of the giant aircraft that broke through the barriers carrying rescuers. Of course, this aircraft carries a "Key" that will allow the cyber-beings the ability to return to their home.

Here's a "Sample page" I created with the help from a colorist to promote the project.
