Yurrhurrhurr.... Not dead yet.;p
This image was an end result of my attempts to get back in form with my coloring by coloring something relatively simple. the flat shading from MLP was ideal for practice, and I had that earlier MLP/Flammie crossover to polish up anyway.
Now, before I go any further, I want to thank romansiii for allowing me to use this wonderfully constructed background. I was just going to extract an image from the tv show, but these backgrounds are fantastic, pre-made backdrops that require little to no tweaking to put your favorite ponies in. The link to this background (and through it the rest of romansii's gallery) is right here.

The collar was an idea from a friend of mine, going by the name of Typhin... Considering the adorable nature of the creature, it makes sense that it might be made a pet... I blame Fluttershy, obviously. (especially because I intended to have the creature in its smaller, "Baby Dragon" form.)
It looks a little lonely sitting there, looking at you as you look at him from behind the flowerbushes... maybe keep him company? (I thought about clipping the image a bit to make him less alone seeming, but the current proportions make for good wallpaper (at least on my smaller laptop screen).
I also thought of placing certain ponies in the image, probably trying to figure out what he is... maybe later... But I found that putting other characters in the image, I thought his attention would be drawn to them, rather than to the viewer, as the original image was intended. ah well, the complications you stumble across as you refine an image more and more... *shrugs*
Next up, more work for Cearenbow to pay for that darn useful tablet he gave me. I'm impressed with the level of detail that is going to be in the linework in the next image...

Hope things are nice and stable for you though:)
frankly, I am afraid it might be too cute...
anyway, welcome back!
Adding in my completely unwarranted 2 cents, you should look into illustrator to get that look from the show...but it sounds like you're a bit too busy with prior commitments to really experiment. still Photoshop has a decent enough vector pen.
That said, admitedly, I made this completely vector free, using masking and other tricks in GIMP... the main reason being that I was wary about getting a bugged (viruses) pirate copy of photoshop, or in this case, the vector program, illustrator.
That said, apparently there is a freeware vector program out there, kind of like there is GIMP to photoshop. Its called inkscape... and indeed, the next time I try this style, I will be trying it, or if can, find a (clean/legal) copy of illustrator... not just because it will make the art match the show better, but because it will also be likely to make the job easier and quicker anyway. Or heck, maybe just play with flash and make a mini animation or something.
That said, your OC character amuses me greatly;) I imagine flammie would be good fodder for being a mutant monstrosity already, being furred, feathered, and scaled, with 5 limbs (4 legs, 4 wings, 1 tail) and a beak-like muzzle with fangs... well meh, thats just the "mana beast" Boss anyway;p scratch that idea.
Anyway, thanks for the advice xylem...:) I'm always happy getting any criticism as long as its mostly constructive.
Great to see your still up and about
