So I am currently in the middle of Resident Evil 9 Requiem and I was instantly reminded of why I despise this current era of video game "horror." While playing as Leon, he just never shuts the fuck up! This has been a big problem since, like, Resident Evil 5 where despite everything that's happening, our bad ass tough guy main character feels the NEED to just keep running his mouth and saying dumb quips! There's this massive fat guy enemy in the game that tries to literally eat you, and Leon will just be like, "Chow down, asshole!" or "tch, I'm not on the menu, lawl!" and I just wanna grab him by the collar and shake him yelling, "People are dying, Leon!! People are being unwillingly infected by a disease that turns them into murder machine victims, and you are delivering puns to them!?"

I get it! This is Leon's 4th or 5th rodeo at this point. People turning into drippy monsters? Same shit, different day.... But how the hell am I supposed to be immersed when every character I play as is just Iron Man!? This isn't just Resident Evil's wrongdoing by the way. I've played numerous horror games at this point where the main character just rolls his eyes and goes, "Oh boy! Here we go again!" Imagine yourself in their shoes! A rotting corpse has come back to life and is trying to kill you! Would you really be standing there going, "I haven't seen this many ribs since the last time I went to Outback Steakhouse!" WACKITTY SCHMACKITTY DOO!!

This needs to STOP! Writers of horror games, stop writing funnies into your games! I was reminded of how good the original Silent Hill games were because the characters weren't cracking jokes! You get immersed and scared by the things attacking you because they're meant to be scary! I haven't played the remake of Silent Hill 2 yet, but I can guarantee that if after killing a sexy nurse monster, if James starts up with, "Well that bitch is as dead as my wife, heyooooooo!" I'm gonna lose my shit!

I suppose I should just be grateful that we still have human writers and haven't replaced everything with ai... yet.... Video games use to make me so happy. God I hate being alive....
