Life update. (G)
Just wanted to post one of these because I needed something to do. My poor dog Prince passed away just a couple of hours ago now. He had kidney failure, died at home with me.
I have to say, 2026 is not my favourite year! Prince had had nothing but reasonably good health since we adopted him. We barely had to spend much on him due to that. And, since kast September, he tore the ligament in his back-leg, which cost 4 grand to fix, and during his recovery they learned that he had early kidney disease, but the vet was optimistic that he would live for up to 2yrs. Then, when he went in for his first blood tets, to check his kidneys, which turned out to be in great condition...they found a lump in his throat, which turned out to be thyroid/throat cancer!
I took him to the same specialist that did his leg surgery, and had to pay just under another 4 grand just for him to have CT scan, which turned out to be useless, as they couldn't remove the tumor via surgery, so they put him on meds, which were meant to slow down the growth of the tumor. But, they also ended up ruining what was left of his kidneys!
His condition started deteriorating last weekend. I took him to the vets on Wednesday who confirmed my worst assumptions. His kidneys had packed up and were no longer working. She said he only had days left.
I had to spend the last few days watching him waste away. Each day, he got a little weaker until finally he passed on. Tbh, it was actually a surprise. He was wobbly on his legs today, but he still made it around the garden. I honestly thought he would be around for tomorrow and the weekend. But then, a couple of hrs later, I turned my head to check on him, as he was lying in his basket on top of my bed, and he was gone.
I should be relieved. I mean, this is what I wanted. He died naturally, so I don't have the guilt of having him put him down, like I did with my other dogs. He died at home, in bed, right beside me. And, he isnt suffering anymore. But... He was all I had left after my mom died a couple of years ago, and now it's just me at home! I want him back!!!
