I'm engaged!
Posted 12 years agoWell, if you follow me on Twitter you probably already know this,
teiran and I got engaged yesterday!
I'm engaged, I have a fiance! I'm wearing an engagement ring. I'm so happy!
When the ruling on DOMA came down we both had the same thought, which is really cool when you think about it. It was only a question of which one of us would propose first.
That's a story for another day. I'm on my lunch break at work so I have to keep this brief. I just wanted to share the good news here.
We've been a couple for over 11 years, lived together for 8 and we're finally going to make it official now that it's semi-legal.

We've all been super busy here at FurPlanet as we prepare for Anthrocon.
Info for those attending AC:
Where to find us at Anthrocon: Tables A09/A10/A11
Same location as last year. When you enter the Dealers Room, turn to your left. We're on the row along the concrete wall, about halfway up. Look for our burgundy tablecloths and our banner with Fez and Rory on it. We'll also have posters of our new releases behind our table, can't miss us.
Staffing the table this year will be
fuzzwolf,
teiran,
confusedoo,
nuwisha55 and
cyanni We'll also have some of our authors dropping by to do some book signing so keep an eye out for info on that.
For our customers who are not attending the convention, you can pre-order our new releases on our site: http://furplanet.com/shop/category.aspx?catid=171 Once we return home from AC we'll order any stock we need and then start shipping the pre-orders out. We're aiming to ship around the end of July.
We still have one or two items to add to the site, but if all goes well we'll have 21 new releases for AC!
Also officially launching July 1st, but it's open now if you want a sneak peek, is our new eBook site: http://www.BadDogBooks.com where we'll be selling eBook versions of furry books in both epub and mobi (Kindle) formats. There are a couple of free eBooks on the site if you want to try before you buy so please check it out.
More info to come soon!
I don't always cross-post my FurPlanet-related announcements here so if you want to be more in the loop about what we're publishing please also follow our
furplanet FA page and FurPlanet on Twitter.

Hello new watchers!
Posted 12 years agoWow, 16 new watchers just since
jailbird posted my ref sheet! Hi everyone.
For those that enjoyed that commission, she also did a nude version which I've posted here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10459030/
Since this is an intro journal of sorts, feel free to ask me anything. That goes for all my watchers. Anything you're curious about whether it's about my character, the podcast I'm on (
knotcast) or the furry publishing company I own (
furplanet) feel free to ask.

Radio Comix needs your help!
Posted 12 years agohttp://www.indiegogo.com/projects/h.....ve-radio-comix
Back in 1997/98 I was first discovering furry comics. Some of the first ones I read were published by Radio: Furrlough, Havoc Inc, Tales of the Fehnnik, etc. Back then, before Diamond further smothered the indy comics industry, you could find furry comics by Radio in your local comic store. Radio probably did more to spread furry comics in those days than any other publisher. They practically created the market for printed furry comics and paved the way for furs like me who would follow in their footsteps a decade later.
Now they could really use some help. As noted on the link above, their former accountant screwed them over and they owe a lot of money to the IRS. The actual total owed, as documented in the update, is $40,000! They have already met the modest goal of $4,000 they set, but I figure the fandom can dig a little deeper and maybe help them out a bit more. The campaign runs for another 29 days so there's plenty of time to contribute and earn one of the perks they have listed.
So if you can spare a few bucks to help out one of the early pioneers of furry publishing please go to http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/h.....ve-radio-comix and help Radio Comix out.
Thanks for listening!

FWA 2013 meme
Posted 12 years agoWhat days will you be there? Arriving Thursday sometime, leaving early Monday
Who will you hang out with during the convention? Hopefully
teiran will be flying out, travelling with
savrin and will probably have dinner and hang with
kyell,
blotch,
sparf, Mangi, Ashe and
ringtailcafe
Where will you be staying? Con hotel. New place looks impressive, I'm curious to see it.
Are there any panels you might be attending? I'll be continuing the annual tradition of recording a KnotSheathed episode with
kyell.
Where can I find you? 90% of the time I'll be in the Dealers Room, mostly behind the
furplanet tables and occassionally chatting to other dealers.
We'll be in a corner of the dealers room with three tables, next to Sofawolf/Kyell and Blotch. I'llbe selling lotsa good stuff as always, including plenty of titles which have not been to FWA before.
So come by, say hi and drop some cash.

5 year anniversary for FurPlanet!
Posted 12 years agoMarch 1st, 2008
5 years ago today, I officially took ownership of FurPlanet.
*First of all use the coupon code 5years to receive 10% off your order all weekend.*
I just want to say I'm amazed at how the last five years have gone.
I could never have done this without the love and support of my amazing mate.
I owe a huge thank you to Buck Turner, who is an amazing editor and a stalwart table helper.
Thanks to Zia, our sales corgi at so many conventions.
Thank you to all our friends who have helped out in any way.
Thank you to the amazing writers and artists of the fandom who entrusted their works to us and believed in what we were doing.
And thank you so much to all our customers. This community is full of readers and fans of great art who believe in supporting furry creativity by buying the books and comics we produce.
Also thanks and a shoutout to our fellow publishers: Sofawolf, Rabbit Valley and Radio Comix. I've gotten to know the folks who run these companies and they have welcomed Teiran and I as a fellow publisher. I'm honoured by their friendship and I look forward to many more fun dinners at cons and collaborations with them.
We've come a long way, had a few bumps here and there and there's much work still to do. I'm not perfect and I'm still learning this whole business thing, but I'm proud of how FurPlanet has grown and I'm looking forward to more great things to come.
Thanks for joining us on the ride!

Furry Fiesta 2013!
Posted 12 years agoWhat days will you be there? Saturday and Sunday. It's a local con for me, but I couldn't get Friday off.
Who will you hang out with during the convention? I'll be working with
teiran,
nuwisha55 and
confusedoo.
Where will you be staying? Con hotel. FurPlanet also has a suite for 2 nights and we'll be having a couple of small gatherings, including probably a birthday party.
Are there any panels you might be attending? Probably the Unsheathed Livestream show and I'll be one of the hosts of our annual KnotCast live show.
Where can I find you? 90% of the time I'll be in the Dealers Room, mostly behind the
furplanet tables and occassionally chatting to other dealers.
I'm really excited about this con. We have a lot of special things for sale. We're representing Sofawolf so we'll have all their stock as well as our own books.
Here are some of the neat new things we have for sale:
Nordguard card game
Hardcover copies of Out of Position, Isolation Play and Divisions (plus
kyell will be around to sign them!)
Summerhill in both hard and softcover.
rikoshi will also be at our table to sign his books. We'll also have both his Sofawolf books.
Lackadaisy. It's been a while since we've had print copies of this great comic, but I scored a small stock of them at FC.
Blacksad and Grandville graphic novels from Dark Horse Comics
Unigan Caravan. The slick new hardcover from Onta. 80 full color pages featuring his Unigan race. Lots of these have already been sold to his Offbeatr backers so these won't be around very long.
Little Buddy and Cocktails. Our stock of these ClubStripes titles should be arriving this week. They've been a bit hard to find. I recommend Meesh's Little Buddy comic. We'llhave plentyon hand!
Not to mention all the rest of our FurPlanet books and comics, including the slew of new releases from just last month.
If you're a fan of Red Lantern, I recommend checking out the prequel novel, Heretic. It's awesome and includes some illustrations which are not online.
Whew that's about it. Feel free to say hi if you see me at TFF. This should be a fun weekend!

Guest of Honor at Rainfurrest 2013!
Posted 12 years agoRainfurrest has officially announced this so I can finally share this awesome news.
furplanet has been selected as Rainfurrest's Publisher Guest of Honor for this year's convention.
Here is the official announcement: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/4224053/
Of course we're all delighted by this. Rainfurrest is one of our favourite conventions to attend and deal at. They have a real commitment to writing in the fandom and we're honoured to be a part of that.
So, we hope to see all our friends at Rainfurrest this year to help celebrate this occasion with us.
More details later, for now I'm just getting the news out there. Of course, I'm super waggy right now. :-D

Posted 13 years agoFuck yeah, Oklacon!
Posted 13 years agoI'm heading up to Oklacon after work today. So I'll be arriving Friday night and leaving Sunday around 6pm. I wish I could stay longer, but lack of time off the day job.
I'm very much looking forward to this. I'm not dealing and I'm only doing one panel, the KnotCast live show on Saturday night. It's only a 1-hour panel so apart from that hour I have no real commitments this con.
The goal for the weekend is to sleep late, hang out with friends, do some reading outdoors, stargaze and smoke some hookah. That's it.
Oklacon is a great con to just chill out and get away from it all. I love the convenience of living in a big metro area, but once a year it's really nice to get away for a bit. Even cell signal is somewhat sparse so I'll be disconnected for a couple of days. Yay!
I'm not dealing, but if you're going and looking to buy some books I've arranged with the con to carry Kyell Gold's books in the con store since he's the GOH this year. You can get both his FurPlanet and Sofawolf releases there, but shop early as there are limited quantities.
If you haven't been to Oklacon I highly recommend it so maybe consider it if you're not attending this year. If you are going this year maybe I'll see you there.
All for now, back to work for a few more hours!

Moved in and so many boxes!
Posted 13 years agoLast week we hired a team of painters to come in and get rid of the wallpaper and paint five of the rooms for us. The house is looking a bit less "old" now.
Moving day was Saturday so now all of our stuff is in the house and we're sleeping here. The place is starting to feel a little more like home now.
My schedule coming up is still busy for a while. Two more days of work then I fly out to Seattle on Thursday morning for Rainfurrest, Teiran will join me that evening. The weekend after that I'm going to Gaylaxicon then two weeks later, Oklacon.
Thankfully I'm not dealing at Oklacon, I just go there to hang out and get away from it all for a bit. I always look forward to it, but this year has been so busy I need the break badly.
On top of all this I'm also working on migrating over to my new computer. It's a lot faster and has over four times the RAM as my old one so it starts up in a snap. Just gonna take a while to get all my data moved over and my email set up again.
All for now, gotta run to work.

Big news: We bought a house! Also, moving and cons.
Posted 13 years agoI've been really busy lately and will be for some time and I just realized I hadn't updated this journal with all I've been up to.
So, the big news is
teiran and I bought a house!
Yup, we're now officially homeowners. I can't believe it, I feel so lucky. We have a beautiful house in the suburbs not far from where we live now. It's big too, over 2,800 square feet.
One of the rooms was being used as a game room by the previous owners. Once we get rid of the pool table in there now that room is going to be the new home of
furplanet. It will be really nice having all our production equipment in one room and this will bring a sense of order to our lives. It's tough to run a growing business out of an apartment and I'm glad we're moving to a bigger place.
Our lease at our current apartment is up on 9/30 so we have to be totally out by then. That is also the weekend of Rainfurrest, followed by Gaylaxicon the weekend after that so we've got to prepare for two cons and move our personal stuff and FurPlanet by the end of the month.
We also would like to get some painting done in the house before moving in too. So right now is both a very stressful and very exciting time for me.
So yeah OMG house! *squee* I'm so happy!

Anthrocon Day 1
Posted 13 years agoWe're having a great AC so far. In fact, I'd say we're on track to have our best Anthrocon ever in the dealers room!
We have a full staff behind the table this year:
teiran,
confusedoo,
nuwisha55,
savrin and myself. With that many of us we were able to handle the mad rush of Friday and maybe take some breaks in turns today to see some of the rest of the con. Saturday is usually a little less busy than Friday, but we'll see.
We've already sold out of one new release, The Deep Dark by
redrusker, but we still have plenty of copies of it's predecessor, School Daze. Unconditional by
rukis is still in stock, but going fast so if you want one at the con you should purchase it sooner rather than later.
After the dealers room closed we had a quick dinner then spent some time with our friends at Sofawolf followed by a brief visit to the artist/dealers reception in the art show. This is something AC does every year and it's pretty cool as it gives the artists and dealers a chance to see the art show since we usually are so busy we don't get much time to browse around.
This convention is also the debut of our new banner by
idess being printed on a huge runner at our table. It looks great and the logo turned out massive so it really lets our customers know where they are.
A big thank you as always to
sparf, the magical wolf who brings all the dealers he knows homemade cookies. Your sugary goodness keeps us going through a long day of selling.

Anthrocon 2012 meme
Posted 13 years agoWho will you hang out with during the convention?
I'll be working with
teiran,
nuwisha55,
confusedOO, and
savrin.
Are there any panels you might be attending? Maybe, but I haven't looked at the schedule yet. Probably not though, but I may be at the Artist/Dealer reception on Friday night.
Will you be suiting? No
Which suit(s) will you be bringing? I don't suit.
Do you do free art? Not an artist
Do you do trades? I've been known to trade books for things from other dealers once in a while.
Do you do badges? Not an artist
Do you do commissions? Not an artist
What is your gender? *wags*
How tall are you? Not tall enough to hang posters behind my table without my tall friend helping. I'm 5'8".
Are you taken? Are you looking for a 'mate'? Yes, Teiran and I have been together over 10 years.
Can I talk to you? Sure, how else can I sell you stuff?
Can I touch you? I'm open to a handshake or a hug if I know you well.
How can I find you? Majority of the con I'll be behind the
furplanet tables. We're at A09/10/11, on the wall.
Can I visit your room? Probably not. Publisher rooms are pretty dull since we usually go to sleep early in order to be at the dealers room for opening.
Can I buy you drinks? You can bring me Diet Coke to keep me going through the day. I don't drink alcohol very often.
Can I give you stuff? Sure, depends what it is. :-P
Can I hug or snuggle with you? Hugs if I know you. Snuggles, err...
Are you nice? I've been told I am.
How long are you going? Arriving Thursday afternoon and heading out on Monday.
Do you have an artist table? See above, 3 tables in the dealers room
If I see you, how should I get your attention? Just say my name I guess.
Where will you be most of the time during the day/s? Dealing at FurPlanet, come and see us.
What/where will you be eating? Probably Furnando's several times, the concession stand in the dealers room and at least one dinner at that place across from the Courtyard.
Can I come with you for food/fun/etc? If you're invited, don't be one of those creeper/hoverers who just tags along.
Can I look in your sketchbook? If I bring them sure.
Can I draw in your sketchbook? See above
Can I take your picture? I'm not photogenic.
What's your goal(s) for the con this year? To see a ton of books, comics, art books, etc. We'll have 25 new items for AC and a ton of stuff which has been released over the last year that's never been on sale at AC. Seriously we've got some killer stuff. Check out the new releases page at FurPlanet: http://furplanet.com/shop/category.aspx?catid=171

Furry Weekend Atlanta 2012 con report
Posted 13 years agoI'm on my way back from FWA right now, typing this on my phone while Lhexa drives.
Due to throwing out my back the Sunday before the con, I was really worried about this one. I still can't lift anything and can't really walk without pain. Without my usual sales team behind the table I seriously considered cancelling the trip.
Luckily my back became less agonizing and Lhexa offered to accompany me on the trip since he was on spring break anyway so I started to reconsider. Then I was really surprised and happy that more friends offered to spend their weekend helping me behind the table.
Thank you so much to Lhexa, Sparf, Mangi, Alflor and Rechan for all your help loading, unloading, picking all the merch for customers and generally helping me carry everything this weekend!
What could have been a wasted weekend and a physically painful one for me turned out to be not quite as painful due to lots of pain meds and lack of movement and rather than a wasted opportunity, I had a decent time and sales were up over last year.
I really thought sales would be down this year and I was hoping to at least match last year. I never thought we'd exceed last time for a number of reasons. I'll be back with FurPlanet next year and we'll likely get the same number of tables.
Not much to write about on a day to day basis. Most of the con was spent behind the table. I basically acted as cashier and source of info on the products while everyone else ran around and grabbed the various books from stock for our customers.
Saturday night I visited Jaspian's room party briefly before recording the third episode of KnotSheathed with Kyell. I like that this is becoming a tradition for us which I hope to continue next FWA. I feel like we have a good chemistry for people who don't podcast together on a regular basis. They're a much different flavour from KnotCast, but I hope the listeners enjoy these shows as much as I do. After the show I hung out in the cafe for a short while with Kyell, Kit, ICWolf, Hux, Kenket and Laura G. Fun times and late night pie. I eventually got to sleep around 3am.
Sunday we had to say goodbye to Rechan and Alflor as they were leaving early. After a pretty quick and efficient breakdown I took the remaining teammembers to dinner. Sparf and Mangi headed out to the airport that evening and Lhexa and I went to bed early so we could hit the road at a decent hour this morning.
I want to say thank you to the staff overall for putting together another fun and smoothly run con. I also want to say thanks again to Rama and the dealers room staff in particular. You guys do a lot of work I don't always see, but I know I arrive with my boxes of stuff and you all make my working weekend go as smooth as possible. So thanks for all your hard work.
I think that's about it for the con report. I'll just end this by saying I leave this con, as I do with most furry cons, with a renewed surge of creativity and the feeling of how much I love the furry community and being a part of it. The fandom is full of so many good friends and talented people, too many to name. This weekend in particular I was overwhelmed by the generosity of spirit and how willing everyone was to help out this old injured wolf. Thank you all and I'll see you again at FWA 2013!

Furry Weekend Atlanta 2012 meme
Posted 13 years agoSome FWA-specific notes:
1. I have three tables in the dealers room, I'll be right next to Kyell Gold's table on the entrance side.
2.
Kyell and I will be recording KnotSheathed (our combination of KnotCast and Unsheathed) on Saturday night at 11:30pm. I know it's late, but if you want to see us banter and talk about the fandom and whatever other topics we can think of please come by and see us. We'll be tired the next day for sure, but hopefully it will be worth it.
That's about it. I don't think any furs local to me are going this year and I only know about a half-dozen people who are going. Who else am I gonna see there? Let me know if you'll be at the con.
Since I just did one of these last month for Furry Fiesta and the month before for Further Confusion a lot of this hasn't changed. If you didn't read that one and are going to Furry Weekend Atlanta though, check it out.
And now, the meme:
Where are you staying? Con hotel.
What day are you getting there? Sometime Thursday.
Who will you be with? Rooming with
sparf and
mdmangi.
Do you do free art? Not an artist
Do you do trades? Nothing to trade
Do you do commissions? I guess this is really mostly driven towards artists. :-P
Do you do badges? See above.
What is your gender? I'm a dude, dude.
How old are you? Just turned 36.
Are you taken? 10 years and counting with
teiran.
What suits will you have? None, just regular clothes.
Can I touch you? If I know you and you aren't creepy or smelly.
Can I talk to you? Sure, but not too long when there are customers waiting.
Can I buy you lots of drinks? Nah, I don't really drink.
Can I give you lots of money? Yes.
Can I hug or snuggle with you? If you're a close friend you may hug, but in general I'm not that physically comfortable around people I don't know. No offense, it's just the way I am.
How tall are you? about 5' 8"
Are you nice? When I'm not stressed out, luckily I have Xanax for that.
Are you cliquey? This always seems a weird question to me, but that might be because I go to cons for multiple reasons. #1 is business, so I'm not really going to be doing the random hangout thing. The times I'm not in the dealers room I'm networking with folks I may be working with or catching up with people I've been friends with for a while. That probably seems cliquey to some people, but I'm usually kept pretty busy at cons so in my off hours I like to spend time with friends or just collapse in exhaustion.
Can I stalk you? I'm ashamed that this is even a question on here...no, no you may not stalk me.
Do you have an artist table? I'll be behind the
furplanet tables in the dealers room. We released 11 new things at FC and 3 more at TFF so come by and do some shopping!
Do you like parties? I'm cool with a smallish gathering of 8 to 10 people I already know, I'm not really into big gatherings any more and at most cons I retire early so I can open the table the next day.
If I see you, how should I get your attention? Just say hi.
Can I hang out with you? Probably not, unless we're already friends and in that case you're probably not reading this meme to determine if we can hang out or not. :-P

Where are you staying? Thursday and Friday I'll be staying at home, I have a suite at the hotel on Saturday and Sunday.
What day are you getting there? I have to work on Thursday so I'll probably head over and get set up after work.
Who will you be with?
teiran,
osfer,
nuwisha55 and
confusedoo will be helping me behind the table,
kyell will be joining us to do some booksigning too.

How old are you? I'll be 35 on Thursday and Friday of the con, then I'll be 36 for the rest of it. :-D
Are you taken? 10 years and counting with
teiran.
What suits will you have? My birthday suit if you're extra special.
Can I touch you? If I know you and you aren't creepy or smelly.
Can I talk to you? Sure, but not too long when there are customers waiting.
Can I buy you lots of drinks? Nah, I don't really drink.

Are you cliquey? This always seems a weird question to me, but that might be because I go to cons for multiple reasons. #1 is business, so I'm not really going to be doing the random hangout thing. How can I find you? I'd say look for the fat wolf, but that narrows it down to about half the con. Look for the fat wolf behind the FurPlanet table. There are two of us. You have a 50/50 shot and we're wearing badges. Good luck, Google Maps can no longer help you.
Some Fiesta-specific notes:
FurPlanet is sponsoring Khaki (the writer formerly known as Alex Vance,
osfer) as a special guest. He'll be helping us out behind the table, signing Heathen City and whatever else he had a paw in and also doing a few panels. So help him earn his keep and attend some panels and chat to him about Bad Dog Books.
FurPlanet Reading - We'll have a reading from some of our recent or upcoming releases. Exact readers and content are still being decided, but look for this on the schedule.
KnotCast Live - This has become a Furry Fiesta tradition. We'll be doing another
knotcast live show. Khaki will be our special guest. I'll be doing this with
savrin and
shivakat as usual.
FurPlanet Party/Book Release/Something - We'll be doing some kind of party or book release in our suite. Once we finalize the details on that we'll have some flyers printed up and the info will be available at our table and around the con.
I'm sure there's more, but I'm forgetting it right now.
So who all is going? I'm looking forward to this one. I don't say this just because this is my local con and I'm involved with it, but it's honestly been a damn fun time every year. If I can not panic in the planning of it I'll have a great time. :-D
Where are you staying? Thursday and Friday I'll be staying at home, I have a suite at the hotel on Saturday and Sunday.
What day are you getting there? I have to work on Thursday so I'll probably head over and get set up after work.
