Sein oder nicht sein, das ist die Frage.
This is going to sound really weird but could someone tell me what constitutes friendship?
I mean, I don't think I could easily differentiate between association and companionship.
Are there any signs? Is it to do with time or intimacy or frequency?
Is there even a definitive line that I should know about?
When does an acquaintance become a friend?

I don't think time is a factor, really. I mean, I could add someone on Skype and enjoy spending time with them. And that would make them a friend to me, even if I've only known them for a day or two.
If you want a sign, I'd say that you know a friend when you know you want to talk to them.
It is possible for one to like somebody, even if the other person doesn't like them back. And Person A would still consider them a friend, maybe because Person B is all they have.
