Post-con post and other news

Rainfurrest! It was my first con, furry or otherwise. Like I mentioned before, I was with
Kitswulf and
MouseyOne. I had a really good time, here were some of the highlights:
When we first got there registration was down. This was bad, but they decided to just let everyone in and enjoy the con until it was back up, which I thought was really nice. After going to a nice panel on "So this is your first furry con," we registered.
After that I went to some art panels, first one about anatomy and then one about erotic art. The latter one was hosted by
Egypt Urnash, who immediately became my favorite presenter there and remained so throughout the duration of the con. She was just so energetic and funny and creative. I tried to go to all of the panels featuring her that I could.
The next day we went to some writing workshops first, the second of which was notable for including A) Jean Johnson, my second favorite presenter, and B) Alan Dean Foster, one of the Guests of Honor. These were pretty cool panels, but I think they were overshadowed by what we did next: eat fucking fantastic ice cream. It was way cold in the hotel and I still ate three bowls, then had the remainder of Kits' last bowl. There were a few other nice panels that day, but it was probably the least memorable day of the con for me.
First panel we went to on Friday was about making your own tabletop games. Or, ostensibly so. Most of the discussion was about playing/GMing tabletop games than anything else. In fact, when someone in the audience mentioned how they wanted to create their own rules system from the ground up (rather than do something based on D&D or another already made system), one of the panelists basically said not to, which seemed counterintuitive to me. Overall it was still an interesting panel though.
After that I went to another Egypt Urnash panel, which was about "Drawing Busts and Curvature." She and a friend got topless for it. The other panelist, who was a guy, was somewhat unprepared to deal with this and she ended up doing most of the panel. He seemed pretty cool for the most part, but I was okay with this. After that Egypt did a comics panel, which was fun too. Kits was there for that, which was nice, most of the day he had been working on his entry in the writing competition.
Next was the MLP fans party, which was another high point of the con for me. I was pretty much there to see the two new episodes, but we also watched some meme videos which were pretty fun, and we all sang the first couple verses of Winter Wrap-up. John DeLancie reprised his role asan unshaped raksha an evil chaotic trickster, which is always a good time. Heh, there were two actual little girls there, and we gave them each a round of applause for being the target demographic.
After that we all hung out for a bit until I went to the final Art Jam, which was awesome but I REALLY wish it were earlier in the day. I ended up staying until past 1am and I just got too tired to draw any more. Hopefully some of the people I sketched stuff for will scan it and post it, and sometime soon I'll scan the stuff I got. The only person who drew in my sketchbook whose FA account I know is
Purri, who drew a really nice pic for me and I look forward to posting it. ^_^
For the last day we pretty much just went to the closing ceremonies, which were a little awkwardly run but were still nice. The best part was that Kits won 2nd place in the writing competition! I had read his story already the previous day so I wasn't surprised he placed so highly, but it was still awesome. He won two books by Alan Dean Foster.
Oh! Also I bought some prints from
mitti and
savannahhorrocks! I thought Mitti had such a cool idea for selling prints: she sold individual prints for $5, and "mystery packs" of 5 prints for $10. You of course don't know which prints you're getting, but that's what makes it so much fun, and it was such a good deal. Savannah was offering some of her prints cheap, just $1 each, because she had mistakenly printed them on regular printer paper. I thought "Wow, I can afford two of those!" So I got them and they're awesome. I'm a digital artist anyway, like I even know what paper is.
In other news, the reason I and Kits were able to go to this con is cause we live in Seattle now. It's awesome! We're up in Lake City. People should totally talk to us and stuff. We're pretty busy still but we'd definitely like to meet other furs in the area if we can.
