Indeed he is. When Pepper died his health went downhill. I thought he was going to die too, but my mate suggested that we feed him live mice. Now he has a lot more energy, his coat is full and smooth with color returning, and so on. We expect to have him for a few more years now. :3 (btw, he is estimated to be about five or six years old)
I am no expert on the matter, but from my understanding raw mice or rats provide almost all of their dietary needs. We give them ferret lax afterwards to prevent any hairballs or whatnot.
Ferrets are carnivores and require more fat and protein than cats. The problem with kibble is that most of it is filler material. On the mouse diet Chili produces less fecal waste which keeps it's consistency, unlike kibble which gives him diarrhea at times. We are trying to get our younger ferret, Loki, to eat mice too, but so far he only nibbles on the head. I know that Chili will eat a dead mouse but Loki seems to become disinterested once it stops twitching.
I suggest you do your own research on the matter and decide for yourself if that is what you want to do.

I know what you mean, Chili loves processed food and sticks his nose up to most raw and cooked meat. I never expected a carnivore to refuse fresh meat.
Yeah, I was going to use a name that referred to a spice since our other ferrets at the time were Chili and Pepper. My mate decided to go with something completely different. It worked out nicely I think. :3

I was reading this and ferrets are mostly finicky if they grow up on a very simple and limited diet. Ferret kits are more open to eating newer stuff, that is a perfect time to get them to have a wider range of a diet, once they reach a year old they become set in their ways and becomes so hard to move their diet around.
