It wasn’t until Jace reached the door of his home, the stray now softly whimpering just a few feet behind him, that he finally gave in. Letting out a defeated sigh, Jace turned towards the stray and beckoned it over. It crept forward slowly at first, tentatively licking at Jace’s proffered hand before crowding against him after receiving a gentle stroke across its head. Sighing again, Jace opened the door of his home, calling out to his mate, Marcus.

It was a credit to Marcus’ stoic personality that he only looked slightly taken aback at the sight of the large creature, which was now clinging desperately to Jace as it tried to hide behind him. Jace sheepishly explained what had transpired, as Marcus eyed it skeptically. In the end they decided there was little else they could do but take the poor thing in for now, confronted as they were with its trembling frame and pitiable gaze.
