Lavender Plays - SimCity (SNES)
The Super Nintendo edition of the first ever SimCity is one of those games that I have a lot of memories attached to. It inspired me to make an entire city out of LEGO on the floor in my room, which I ran as mayor foreverdyever. Actually it was only for about four years until I moved on to other things, but I still made me learn to appreciate the small details in everything. I would of course apply this life lesson to the LEGO city and not necessarily the SimCity game proper, as the game has you managing the budget and development of a city rather than focusing on individual pieces of architecture.
That being said, your actions in how you plan your Sim City still have an impact on what kind of a population decides to live there. How you handle land values, crime, pollution, transportation and the ever omniscient taxes will change the social landscape of your town. Even the earliest and simplest SimCity game had such a high number of possibilities to make it a never ending canvas of discovery. Granted the newer ones also added new levels of frustration with accounting, ordinances and disasters that can break even the toughest players. Still, they keep me enthralled and hoping I will have my new computer ready as soon as the fifth installment comes out in the next few months.
Until then, I'll have to pick up the others and see how well they've aged in my mind: SimCity Classic, 2000, 3000, and 4.
Right now, I felt it was right to pick up my first ever SimCity experience on the SNES. Loved it just as I did back then. Of course, lacking my childhood mindset I'm doing a lot better at understanding how to handle funding. Though I do find it a bit annoying when Sims run away from my town just because I don't have a Stadium running yet. Just makes me wanna SCREAM IT'S NOT IN THE BUDGET YOU DOUCHEBAGS!
And how could I forget Dr. Wright? I mean, I guess when he's not slaying my enemies in Brawl as an assist trophy, he's also helping me advice. Like replacing all my roadways with rails...
NOT IN THE BUDGET A-HOLE!
… Seriously, traffic is always my #1 problem in ANY SimCity game. Apparently I'm no good at laying pavement. Better at shredding it I suppose. I mean, speed limits are there to be broken, right?
